A cross-sectional study of the prevalence

and risk factors for hypertension in rural

Nepali women
The title
Does it include:
1.Research problem?
2.Reseach variables?
3.Target population?
4.Place & Time?
Contain the research problem , place,and target
population but did not mention the Time of study .
Study variables: Exposure (risk factors for hypertension)
& Outcome (prevalence of hypertension), but didnt
mention what are risk factors.
The abstract
* Does it include:
1.A brief review of the essential points?
2.Significance of the study?
3.Research questions (objectives & hypothesis)?
4.Overview on methodology & time frame?
5.Summary of results & conclusions?

A brief review of the essential points containing an

introduction and explanation about the methodology and
a summary of results and a conclusion and key word in
form subheading (organized) , but didnt including
question or hypothesis.
The Introduction
Does it include :
1.Overview of previous studies related to the same
subject ?
2. Rational of the research question?
3.Research question with the hypothesis/ objectives?

Did not have an Overview of previous studies; however

the aim was clear, hypothesis not mention.
Methodology
During result critics we look about:
Study design
Sample size & sampling procedure
study population
Study variable & inclusion exclusion criteria
Instrument and data collection
Statistical analysis

a cross sectional study was used in this study ,Samples

were selected randomly from the database, large sample
size was included , Nepali women was the target
population with inclusion and exclusion criteria , study
variable mention, Questionnaire and interview were used
to collect data, Good validity and reliability, and Setting
and time mention.
Chi-square test, logistical regression and ANOVA were
used in the Statistical analysis.
Result
During result critics we look about:
* How did the researcher presented the data; ( tables,
graphs, figure,) was it appropriate?
* Were the results statistically significant?
* Did the researcher examine all hypothesis & presented
the results?
* Are all illustrations required?
*Was the analysis procedure carefully described so that it
is easy to check whether conclusions are correct?
The researcher used the past tense in writing, he
presented the data by tables, its clear, understandable
and it were appropriate, all the tables mentioned in the
text.

There are adequate statistical analysis. descriptive

analysis was done: frequency, percent, mean, standard
deviation, and studied demographic variables were done
using Pearsons Chi square and ANOVA test for
categorical variables. Level of significance was set at p <
0.05.
The result showed that
there was a trend of increasing prevalence of
hypertension and prehypertension with increasing age
and higher MUAC.
Women with hypertension or pre-hypertension were more
likely to be smokers and twice as likely to consume
alcohol. Pahadi women had a greater probability of
hypertension(4% versus 3%) or pre-hypertension (17%
versus 13%) than Madheshi women. Women with
hypertension
or pre-hypertension were also more likely to come from
households that did not own any land or livestock.
Women working outside the home had a lower prevalence
of both hypertension and pre-hypertension than women
who stayed at home.
Discussion
* Do the data answer the research questions?
* Consistency with other studies ??
* Are any limitations noted?
* Are the conclusions consistent and congruent with the
findings?
* Are the ethical issues mentioned or adequately
discussed?
* Did the authors provides suggest future research?

During discussion the researcher answered your

questions.
he compared his observation with others studies.
The findings are consistent with the conclusion of
researcher .
The researcher didnt dive suggestion for future
researches.

Conclusion
* There is conclusion for the study ?
The researcher stated that the prevalence of
hypertension was low in this cohort, it was more
prevalent among the poorer women and was strongly
associated with other cardiovascular risks. These
associations at a relatively young age may confer greater
risk for cardiovascular disease among women in later life,
indicating the need for interventions to reduce the
progression from pre-hypertension to hypertension.
Recommendation
* Is there any recommendations for future studies?
* Are recommendations applicable?
The researcher did not give any recommendations for
future studies.

* Updated?
* Cited & complete?

Reference

* Significant & relevant?
