Questions:

1. According to your nomenclature, rf is reflux ratio, but external and not

internal, am I right? And referred to the condenser and not to the reboiler,
am I right?
2. Application 14: The mass balance breakdown below is think it is right, but
for me, the representation of 8,5 and 14,8 in the diagram below, whould be
the opposite (8,5 mols of propane in the residue and 14,8 moles of iso and n
butane in the destilate), am I right?
3. Application 14: in this case, the specification are expressed one in form of
recovery rate and the other one in form of purity, so are we in case b) or c)
of your scripts (pg 107 to 109).

Could you please make more explicit the passes of the procedure for
iteration in order to solve this problems.

Below you can find a try for a the resolution of the problema. Why do we
have to suppose that ic4= n4, and in the next iteration ic4= 0,75, nc4= 0,25?
When do we know where do we have to stop iterating (convergence
condiction)

4. Aplication 16. Why do we have do a the chart similar to the one in page
123 of your scripts, it is not posible, like below just to calculate the formula
of the line that enables to interpolate in function of the % of vaporisation?
(see below).
Do we know the current% of vaporisation for that exercise?

5. Application 17. When do we have to suppose that the components are
distributed, just for this aplication (Underwood) or also in other aplication?
What consiquences does it have to consider the components distributed?

I dont fully understand the procedure you explained in class to solve the
problem according to pages 129 and 130 of your scripts:

Stage 1: why VA= 0?
Stage 2: I dont undestand this stage of the resolution in the scripts and how to
put it in practict. Why V is now one a unknown?

Stage 3: I dont understand what we have to do and if it has to be done also during
stage 1.

Stage 4: I dont understand how to apply: en particulier, on peut supposer que

seuls les deux corps cls sont rpartis et ne considrer que la valeur de comprise
entre les valeurs de alpha des corprs cls. Dans ce cas et V

In summary, I would appreciate if you could re-explained how to solve step by step
the problem, in practice.

6. Application 18. How can we calculate n right column in the chart from the
columns in the left. When does the iterating procedures stops. How do we
calcultate E (efficacit global of trays with OConnel and position of the feed
n/N)?

7. Aplication 21, how to apply all the shortcut methods from applications 16,17
and 18 to a three products destillation column. Could you explain it to me in
detail or the this that change in relation with a 2 products column?

Is it posible to apply the mnimum reflux of Underwood for a 3 products
column? How does it change in relation to a 2 products column?

How do we need to take into account the first condition y i, p+1= x i,p , or it
is just written to indicate that we work in total reflux?

In part 3, how can we evaluate the real column from the data obtain in parts a
1 and 2?

8. Application 24. How to do the Mc Cabe Thiele analytically for mnimum
reflux.
9. Aplication 26. How to solve it?
10. Aplication 27. Could you please re-explain how to solve it step by step?
11. Aplication 28 and 29. How to solve it?
