CHAPTER 3
Research Design
Research Subjects
The subjects that are to be studied are the people with SAD but has
not realized it but, as the subjects fare to not reveal their own weakness, the
research will be conducted on all people that may be observed in a random
time, place, and situation. The research will focus on identifying those that
may have SAD and by focusing their behavior. This is to identify what spaces
may be provided in the treatment facility that may help in treating SAD of
various kinds of people.
The research will be focused on the behaviors of people that pass
along a certain area, certain events, or certain condition that may be taken
notice by them. As the research fares to take in information from different
kinds of people, the researchers would be able to identify those with SAD and
those without. With that, the researchers may choose the spaces to be
included in the treatment facility in respect with the conditions of the people
with SAD.
Another subject would be those that are diagnosed with SAD as they
are the primary target for the treatment facility since they are the ones who
are already identified with SAD. The research would focus on identifying what
their normal actions and behaviors are on their daily lives. The information
gathered would be used to identify spaces that may be provided in the
treatment facility.
An observation of daily activities and interview to the said subject
would be conducted in order to gain information from people that are
experiencing SAD. This would help in selecting spaces for the treatment
facility in creating an environment fitted for the subjects.
Research Instruments
To gather the information needed for the research, multiple ways of getting
these sources are to be conducted in order to gather the said information.
Primary sources
A. Behavioral Observation
The study of social anxiety requires the study of the behavioral
aspects of a human person. Since social anxiety is a disorder that
describes a person who has fear of social interactions, an in-depth
analysis is required to show the behavior of a person with SAD.
The observation will be conducted to the person with SAD and
will give the researchers the information that will benefit the study and
affect the overall design study with the behavioral aspects of a person
on the required spaces of architectural means for the institution.
B. Mailed Questionnaires
Mailed questionnaires shall be sent to important professional
people to acquire information regarding the background of SAD and
information on how to deal with it. The respondent will be the chief of
MakatiMed section of Psychiatry that is outside Davao City.
C. Direct Interview
Direct Interviews with professional will be conducted to gather
information and first hand recommendations regarding the needed
understanding and conclusion of the study.
Experts on social anxiety disorder and many other psychiatric
disorders will be interviewed to gain information and suggestions on
how to deal with SAD patients.
Architects specializing in institutes and engineers will be
interviewed to gain professional insight regarding the planning and
construction of the Institute.
Secondary Sources
A. Books
Books, including reference books such as dictionaries and
encyclopedias will be utilized to gather related literatures on the
ideologies of having the actual information and standards of providing
spaces for the treatment facility.
B. Websites
Websites may be updated with new information that involves the
latest innovations and new activities that may involve the actual
process of helping people with SAD. In addition, some written
information that are not found in books that still concerns the study
may also be accessed through the internet.
