General Technology Introduction

Pulse Reflectometry (PR) is based on measurements of one dimensional acoustic waves propagating in tubes.
Schematically:

Any change in the cross sectional area in the tubular system creates a reflection.
All reflections propagate back and the proprietary algorithms enable self-analysis.
Each defect has its own signature, for example an erosion signature will look like this:

As a result the APR gives exact location, type and size of the defect.

What can we learn from reflections?

Reflections are created whenever a change in cross section is encountered:

Constrictions: a reduction in cross section due to a partial blockage or a connector to a narrower pipe.
Expansions: erosion or connection to a wider pipe.
Effective changes in cross section due to openings into the atmosphere - such as holes and cracks.
Schematically:

More typically, we will have:

a local blockage (deposits, dents, welding material):

or degradation (pitting):

Tube wall degradation:

The technology advantages:

Non-traversing.
FAST Inspection.
Any pipe configuration (narrow, fin tubes, y & t joints, 90 turns).

Non-material dependent inspects all: carbon, stainless, copper or brass.

Easy to operate. Results analysis is simple.

The technology disadvantages:

Only Inner diameter defects are being detected outer diameter isnt inspected.
