Course Syllabus

Course Name: Bacteriology


Course Credit: 5 units
Contact Hours: 3 hour

Description: This course deals with the study of the gamma hemolytic bacteria, in the genus of
Streptococci, including their general characteristics, unique characteristics, pathogenesis,
etiology, laboratory identification, and its clinical significance and treatment.
Learning Outcome:
LO1: By the end of the lesson, students shall have mastery with the performance, analysis, and
the mehods employed in the laboratory for accurate identification of the gamma hemolytic
bacteria, in the genus of Streptococci.
Enabling Outcomes: The students shall have:
1. Appreciated the purpose of identifying the gamma hemolytic bacteria in the field of
medicine.
2. Understood, enumerated, and explained the basic concepts of the structure and unique
features of the bacteria.
3. Identified the tests employed in the laboratory necessary for the identification of
bacteria and its positive and negative results.
4. Comprehended the pathogenesis, the manifestation, and the clinical significance of the
diseases caused by the bacteria and identify the treatment needed and its mode of action.
5. Differentiated the unique features and laboratory identification of the group of bacteria
under the gamma hemolytic streptococci .

6. Identified and enumerate the unique characteristics of bacteria under the gamma
hemolytic streptococci .

Class Policies:
Attendance:

A student should have at least 80% attendance (maximum of 6 absences), or the student
will be given a grade of FA.

Quizzes:

Special quizzes will not be given to the late and absent students, unless an emergency
situation have occured, like: bereavement of an immediate family and absence due to bad
health. And only then it is valid if a student can present a death certificate or a medical
certificate to the instructor as a proof.
A special quiz is only given if the student will be the one to arranged it with the
instructor.

Examinations:

Special examination will not be given to the late and absent students, unless an
emergency situation have occured, like: bereavement of an immediate family and absence
due to bad health. And only then it is valid if a student can present a death certificate or a
medical certificate to the instructor as a proof.
A special examination is only given if the student will be the one to arranged it with the
instructor.

Projects / Assignments:

Deadlines for projects / assignments should be met by the students. Extensions will not
be given, furthermore, late submission of requirements will not be acknowledged, unless
an emergency situation have occured, like: bereavement of an immediate family and
absence due to bad health. And only then it is valid if a student can present a death
certificate or a medical certificate to the instructor as a proof.

Uniform and I.D:

A student not in proper school uniform or has no I.D / Name Plate will not be admitted in
the class, unless, a student will obtain a demerit slip from the DSA.
