MicroLogix 1500 System Expansion Worksheet

Use the worksheet below to account for the amount of 5V dc and 24V dc current consumed by your controller, expansion I/O, and user supplied equipment. Current
consumed by the Base Units, Memory Modules, and Real Time Clock Modules has already been factored into the calculations below. A system is valid if the current
and power requirements are satisfied, and if all expansion I/O modules are mounted no further than 8 modules away from a power supply or Base Unit. The 1769HSC, 1769-SDN, and 1769-SM2 must be mounted within 4 modules of a power supply or Base Unit and the 1769-SM1 within 6 modules of a power supply or Base
Unit.
This version of the MicroLogix 1500 system qualifier is an interactive version which utilizes user input to calculate system current and power. The qualifier then
determines if the chosen system is acceptable or if it violates any of the MicroLogix 1500 requirements and/or rules.
Blue cells represent directions for user input and cells colored in yellow represent where the user enters that input. Red cells
represent any errors the user input has caused or any MicroLogix 1500 requirements and/or rules that have been violated.

A maximum of 8 modules are addressable with Series A Base Units.

Up to a maximum of 16 modules are addressable when using the following system:
Series B Base Units with Series C Processor Units, an expansion cable, an expansion power supply, and
RSLogix 500 or RSLogix 500 Starter software version 5.00 or later.
All modules must be used within their specified "Power Supply Distance Rating".
Most modules have a rating of 8 (see 1769-HSC, 1769-SDN, 1769-SM2, and 1769-SM1 below).
(4)

1769-HSC, 1769-SDN, and 1769-SM2 modules have a power supply distance rating of 4.
They may have no more than 3 modules between them and the MicroLogix 1500 Base Unit or Expansion Power Supply.
The 1769-SM1 module has a power supply distance rating of 6.
They may have no more than 5 modules between them and the MicroLogix 1500 Base Unit or Expansion Power Supply.

Validating System Power Loading on Base Units

After you have calculated the amount of Base Unit current consumed by your system,
use the tables below to verify that the total power loading is less than the maximum allowed.
If the Base Unit current or the Base Unit power loading is exceeded;
or if you are using more than 8 modules, you must use an external power supply and cable.
