Pretest
1. Pupils will answer items number 1-10 of their questionnaire
handout for Distinguishing Fact from Opinion.
2. Pretest answers will be checked.
Motivation
Teacher holds up sentence strips. A sentence is written on one side
and `opinion or `fact on the other side. Pupils have to determine
whether the sentence indicated is fact or opinion.
1. All people must breathe to live.
2. All people love basketball.
3. Blue is the best color.
4. Juan is lazy.
5. Noynoy Aquino is our president.
6. Cebu is in Visayas.
7. Children do not like vegetables.
8. There are more or less 1000 people in Dona Salud.
9. I believe that Davao is the best city in the world.
10.
Most people have two arms and legs.
B. Developmental Activities
Presentation
1. The answers of the pupils for the preceding activity are posted
on the board and categorized whether fact or opinion.
2. Ask more questions to elicit answers involving fact or opinion.
Answers are also categorized accordingly.

Application
Read items 11-30. Determine whether each statement is a fact
or opinion.
Enrichment Activity
1. Group the pupils. Read the story. Six sentences are facts. Two
are opinions.
2. Say: Write the facts and then the opinion.
Long ago, books were written by the hands. That was probably a
very difficult and tiring job. Handwritten books were expensive. In 1440,
type was invited. Each letter was a separate block. The blocks were
combined to make words. Soon many books were printed from type. Some
people believe that a very old hand written book is more beautiful than a
printed book.
