Long ago, Egyptians ate wheat in the form of dried seeds. Afetr
some time, they invented a kind of bread by cooking a gruel over
hot stones. That has since become the present day bread.
The secret of tasty bread lies primarily in the type of flour and
its content. Plain white bread has a high content flour and sugar
which gives it a smooth texture. However it contains no fibre. A
high-fiber bread would contain more than 50 percent coarse flour
and no sugar.
White bread, which has been dominating the breakfast tables
of most Malaysians, is now making way for a more popular bread
the high fibre bread. Its high fiber content assists in digestion and
its sugar content is virtually nil. Therefore, it is fast becoming
popular among the weight and health conscious consumers as well
as diabetics.
High fiber bread is rich in Vitamins B1, B2 and B complex. It is
also high in protein, calcium and iron. High fiber bread provides
roughage for a good digestive system and it helps in preventing
constipation.
Those who are not health conscious are also turning to high
fiber bread like whole meal, wheatgerm and muesli bread because
of their appetizing aroma and distinctive taste.
Hotels and bakeries are cashing in on the popularity of highfibre bread by offering an astonishing array of wholesome bread.
