GUIDELINES ON JOURNAL SELECTION

1. The following are the accepted criteria for classifying the journal as internationally refereed:

Has at least two reviewers to evaluate a submitted paper

Has an international editorial board

Has international diversity of authorship

Appears in major databases

Has a reputable publisher

Has SCI, SSCI or COMPENDEX No.

- If a journal has an impact factor equal to or higher than 1.0 from Thomson Reuters or Scopus
(SNIP), where the article is published, it will be automatically accepted without DPRCs evaluation.
The impact factor should be considered at the time of submission of the article to the target
journal.
2. The following are the criteria for evaluating case clearing houses (for DBA students):
Has an international peer review process (not in-house)
Has an international editorial board;
Has international diversity of authorship;
Has a reputable publisher.
3. A doctoral student is required to seek formal approval from the Program Committee Chair before
sending his/her scientific paper for publication in any journal.
4. Before sending the dissertation article to any journal, the Publication Submission Form must be
completed and submitted to the Registry for recording.
5. If in doubt, pre-evaluation of the journal can be requested from the DPRC by filling up the Preevaluation Form and submitting all relevant information to Registry.
6. All published article which is meant to fulfill the graduation requirement will be reviewed by the
DPRC.
7. The DPRC is discouraging publication in some journals. The list is available at each field of study for
reference of students and faculty and in this site URL: http://www.ait.ac.th/faculty-andstaff/academic-senate/journals-for-doctoral-research-publications/list-of-unacceptable-journals2010?portal_status_message=Changes%20saved.#.Uh8mvFKNAu4. In addition, publication in
journals with very broad scope is also discouraged.

GUIDELINES ON JOURNAL PRE-EVALUATION PROCESS

1. If in doubt of the journals quality, pre-evaluation of the journal can be requested from the DPRC by
filling up the Pre-evaluation Form and providing all relevant information to Registry.
The documents needed for pre-evaluation are as follows:

1. For internationally refereed journal:

Peer review process and how many reviewers does the journal have to review submitted paper?
List of editorial board members (with affiliations)
Sample table of contents of any past issue
List of major databases where the journal is indexed
Publishers information
SCI, SSCI or COMPENDEX Number
Other relevant information about the journal
2. For case clearing houses:
Case review process
List of editorial board members (with affiliations)
Sample table of contents of any past issue
Publishers information
Other relevant information about the case clearing house
3. The DPRC will review the journal and make recommendation based on the information provided by
the student or Program Committee Chair. Thus, it is important to ensure that complete information
is provided to Registry so that appropriate recommendation can be made by the DPRC.
4. Registry will compile the recommendations from the DPRC members. If majority agreed to accept
the journal without any need for discussion, the journal will be accepted and the decision will be
relayed to the student and Program Committee Chair. If a member suggested discussion of the
journal in the DPRC meeting, the journal will be reviewed in the scheduled monthly DPRC meeting.
The DPRCs recommendations are reported to the Academic Senate.

Revised based on DPRC meetings of 14 & 21 March, 11 April 2012 and 14 Nov 2012, 14 August 2013
