GREEN TECHNOLOGY

ETP MAY 2015 SEMESTER

PROJECT TOPICS/THEMES

ENVIRONMENT

TRANSPORTATION
SOCIETAL ISSUES

Theme: GREEN TECHNOLOGY

Green technology is defined as the development and application of products, equipment and systems used
to conserve the natural environment and resources, which minimize and reduces the negative impact of
human activities
Green Technology refers to products, equipment or systems which satisfy the following criteria:

It minimizes the degradation of the environment;

It has zero or low green house gas (GHG) emission;
It is safe for use and promotes healthy and improved environment for all forms of life;
It conserves the use of energy and natural resources; and
It promotes the use of renewable resources.

Creative and innovative solution(s) to address any of Green Technology related the topics below can provides
innovative solution in order to conserve our natural environment and resources:
Recycling Technologies: Fluorescent bulb, computer and electronics recycling
Green Technology for economy development in rural area
UTP as a Green Campus
Conversion of red building to green building (UTP case study, CO2 measurement and energy efficiency)

Theme: SOCIETAL ISSUES

Improving ecosystem, human health and lifestyle of society
Contrary to popular belief, we dont have to make drastic changes in order to notice an improvement in the
quality of our life. At the same time, we dont need to wait a long time in order to see the measurable results
that come from taking positive action. What we need is to come out with innovative solutions to:
Invent means or gadget to improve the quality of our human health and lifestyle
Invent gadget to help or facilitate the student in their studies.
Means to provide conducive environment for the students.

Theme: ENVIRONMENT
Innovative basic amenities for sustainable environment in urban and rural
area.
Basic amenities have to be improved in order to enhance the quality of life in urban and rural area:

Provide a truly aspirational next generation product that everyone will want to use in developed as well as
developing nation.
Design new concept of washroom which is hygienic and user friendly at urban, rural and R & R areas.
Water conservation is important to preserve our fresh water supply.
To make the basic amenities such as drinking water accessible to people even in remote villages.
Innovative recycle bin to encourage recycle in society

Theme: TRANSPORTATION
Mobility aids for people with disabilities
Mobility aids and transportation play key roles in the struggle for civil rights and equal opportunity in the
disability community. Affordable and reliable mobility aids and transportation allow people with disabilities
access to important opportunities in education, employment, health care, housing, and community life.
Because our nations investments in transportation infrastructure have disproportionately favored cars and
highways, those who cannot afford cars or do not drive cars often lack viable transportation options. People
with disabilitiesparticularly in rural areasneed accessible, affordable mobility aids and transportation
options that bring employment, health care, education, housing, and community life within reach. Some rely
on automatic stop announcement systems, which often are problematic. Additionally, problems persist with
the maintenance of accessibility equipment such as lifts, and with securing mobility equipment such as
wheelchairs and scooters. In some cases, drivers do not stop for people with disabilities. Drivers need more
training on securing equipment, calling out stops, and following procedures regarding passengers with
disabilities.

PEER EVALUATION
Students will be evaluating their team members with respect to
aspects of team works such as participation, support etc.
This enables students to rate their team mates, given the fact that
supervisors are not able to monitor the performance of the team
members in total.
The exercise will be carried out towards the end of the semester.
The marks shall be made confidential.

See Appendix-XXII in the ETP Guidelines.

IC (Individual Contribution)
Official meetings shall be held with supervisors every week.

Each student shall submit a logbook during meeting.

Supervisors will keep track of record from Weeks 2 to 11
Absences must be justified with valid reasons.
Attendances and active participation in meetings and
logbooks shall be used to determine the IC scores

Q&A

WHAT is CREATIVITY?

WHAT is CREATIVITY?
Creativity is the act of turning new and imaginative
ideas into reality

Creativity is characterised by the ability to perceive

the world in new ways, to find hidden patterns, to
make connections between seemingly unrelated
phenomena, and to generate solutions

Creativity involves two processes: thinking, then

producing. If you have ideas, but dont act on them,
you are imaginative but not creative.

What is INNOVATION?

What is INNOVATION?
Innovation is the
implementation of a new or
significantly improved product,
service or process that creates
value for business, government
or society

INNOVATION is Not an EVENT
