Addendum

ALL OFF [F2] key added in Program List Window


The all Program numbers can now be set to OFF by using the ALL OFF [F2] key added in the Program List
Window in MULTI/PROGRAM mode.
You can see the ALL OFF [F2] key in the Program List Window which appears when the [WINDOW] key is
pressed while the cursor is at No. field in MAIN [F2] page of Multi mode or at Program No. field in MAIN
[F1] page of Program mode.

3-digit below decimal point added at Loop Start Field


For the improvement of interchangeability with the looped samples created by the S1000/S3000 series samplers, the 3-digit below decimal point is now added at the Loop Start field.
It is now possible to create more accurate loops by fine adjusting the loop point using with the newly added 3digit parameter.
When the Loop Fine Window is opened by pressing the [WINDOW] key at St/END field of LOOP [F2] page
in SAMPLE mode, you can see the new parameter added at St field.

Addendum

Play Trigger Window added


The Play Trigger function is now available for the Drum Programs also.
The following Play Trigger Window appears when the Drum Program is selected in Program mode and the
[WINDOW] key is pressed while the cursor is at Note field in ASSIGN [F2] page.

Play Trigger

Options are NOTE ON/NOTE OFF/TOGGLE.


When NOTE ON is selected, the Note-On message plays the sample and the Note-Off
message stops it. This is an ordinary operation.
When NOTE OFF is selected, the Note-On message is ignored and the sample is played
in One-Shot mode when the Note-Off message is received. The Velocity field appears
when NOTE OFF is selected.
When TOGGLE is selected, one Note-On message plays the sample and the subsequent
Note-On message received stops it.

Velocity

When NOTE OFF is selected at Play Trigger field, this sets the velocity value for
sample play. The options are AS NOTE ON/AS NOTE OFF/VELOCITY 0-127.
With AS NOTE ON selection, the sample is played at Note-On velocity value.
With AS NOTE OFF selection, the sample is played at Note-Off velocity value.
With the selection of 0-127, the sample is played at the specified velocity value.

Addendum

MEMORY TO CD Function added


The MEMORY TO CD function which allows writing the Multis/Programs/Samples/Songs in memory by
creating the new folder into the root directory of CD-R/RW disc has been added.
As the MEMORY TO CD function supports the multi-session writing, it is possible to add data subsequently
to the limit of disc capacity.
When the CD-R/RW drive with the CD-R disc inserted, which is connected via the SCSI or USB, is selected at
Disk field of UTILITY [F2] page in SAVE/LOAD mode, the MEMORY TO CD option is available at Do
field.
When the CD-RW drive with the CD-RW disc is selected, the QUICK ERASE, FULL ERASE and MEMORY
TO CD options become available at Do field.
The following screen appears when the MEMORY TO CD is selected at Do field.

Mode

Write Speed

Select the writing method from the TEST+WRITE, TEST ONLY or WRITE ONLY
options.
When the TEST ONLY option is selected, it verifies the disc by simulating the writing (The actual data is not written in TEST ONLY mode).
When the TEST+WRITE is selected, it continues to write after the disc test is completed without an error.
When the WRITE is selected, the writing starts immediately.
Sets the write speed. The selectable options available depend on the CD-R/RW drive
and the disc media used.

The following MEMORY TO CD Window appears when DO IT [F6] key is pressed after setting Mode and
Write Speed fields.

Used Memory
Disc Free
New Disc Name
Folder Name

Shows the approximate amount of memory used.


Shows the disc capacity available.
Sets the new name for the CD-R/RW disc.
Sets the name of the folder created.

Only the alphabetical letters in upper case, numbers (0 to 9) and _ (underscore) can be used for the
disc name.

Operation
1. Connect the CD-R/RW drive to the Z4/Z8 via the SCSI or USB with the CD-R or CD-RW disc in
serted and then boot up the system.
2. Switch to the Disk Utility page by pressing UTILITY [F2] key in either SAVE or LOAD mode.
3. Select the drive connected at Disk field.
4. The MEMORY TO CD option is automatically selected at Do field when the CD-R disc is used.
Select the MEMORY TO CD option at Do field when the CD-RW disc is used.
5. Select the writing method at Mode field (TEST+WRITE option recommended).
6. Set the writing speed at Write Speed field.
7. Press DO IT [F6] key to open up the MEMORY TO CD Window.
8. Confirm the memory size used at Used Memory field and the disc space available at Disk Free
field.
When the memory size used is larger than the disc space available, it is not possible to write. Delete
some files in memory or change the disc.
9. Set the disc name at New Disc Name field.
10. Set the name for the folder created at Folder Name field.
11. Press DO IT [F5] key to start writing.
12. The disc will be ejected automatically when the disc writing is completed.

QUICK ERASE Function


The following Quick Erase CD-RW Window appears by pressing the DO IT [F6] key after selecting the QUICK
ERASE option at Do field.
The QUICK ERASE finishes in shorter time compared to the physical erasing (Full Erase) since it only writes the
flag for erased condition.

FULL ERASE Function


The following Full Erase CD-RW Window appears by pressing the DO IT [F6] key after selecting the FULL
ERASE option at Do field.
The FULL ERASE takes longer time compared to the logical erasing (Quick Erase) since it erases all data
physically.

ak.Sys Name Field/OS Version Field


In the GLOBAL [F1] page in UTILITIES mode, it shows the name of sampler set with the ak.Sys at ak.Sys
Name field and the current OS version number at OS Version field.

Def. Items Field


At Def. Items field in the GLOBAL [F1] page in UTILITIES mode, you may select whether the default items
(Multi/Program) to be created at the time of powering it up.
When used with the Autoload function (described later), the unnecessary files will not be created if OFF is
selected.
Def. Items
ON The default items (Multi/Program) are created at powering up.
OFF The default items are not created at powering up.

Autoload Field
At Autoload field in the GLOBAL [F1] page in UTILITIES mode; you may set to load the data in the folder
automatically at the time of powering it up.
When there is a folder named Autoload in the root directory of the drive connected, the data contents of that
folder (Multis/Programs/Samples/Songs) will be loaded automatically.
Autoload
ON When the Autoload folder exists in the root directory of the drive connected, the Multi/Program/
Sample/Song items inside the folder are loaded automatically.
OFF The Autoload function is disabled regardless of the presence of Autoload folder.
Operation
1. Create the folder named Autoload at the root directory of the drive connected and then save the files
into it, or rename the existing folder at the root directory to Autoload.
2. In GLOBAL [F1] page in UTILITIES mode, set it to ON at Autoload field.
3. The data in the Autoload folder will be auto-loaded the next time the unit is turned on.
Note: The Autoload function may not work properly when two or more drives are connected, depending
on the type of drives and/or the connection of drives. If such a problem arises with multiple drives,
try using it with only a single drive connected.

Addendum

OS Update from Disk


The Z4/Z8 can be updated when the drive media with the V1.10 or later version OS saved is connected to the
Z4/Z8.
Operation
1. Connect the storage media with the Z48_***.bin (*** being the OS version number) OS file in DOS or
ISO9660 format to the Z4/Z8.
2. Select Z48_***.bin in LOAD mode and then press DO IT [F6] key.
3. Press DO IT [F5] key when the Load OS Window appears with the Load Operating System? message.
4. The OS Upgrade Window appears with the Validating the O/S File message and checks the OS file.
*An error will be displayed at this point if the file is non-Z4/Z8 OS file or is corrupted. Try it again with
the proper OS file.
5. When the file check is completed, the Are you sure you want to update the O/S to version *.** ?
message appears. Confirm the version number and then press YES [F5] key.
6. While updating, the Erasing Flash Memory and Writing OS to Flash Memory messages appear.
7. When the OS updating is completed, the The O/S has been successfully updated. Please restart. message appears. Press OK [F5] key to reboot the Z4/Z8.
8. After reboot, press INITIAL [F6] key in UTILITY mode to complete the OS update.
Note: Do not power off the unit during the OS update process.

GO TO Function
The operations in MULTI/PROGRAM mode can be worked efficiently by using the GO TO function.
In MULTI mode, the following screen appears when the SHIFT key is pressed while the cursor is not at Multi
Name field in MAIN [F2], TUNE [F3] or FX [F4] page.

SHIFT+ PROG [F5]


SHIFT+ SAMP [F6]

Moves to the program in PROGRAM mode.


Moves to SAMPLE mode.

In PROGRAM mode, the cursor moves to Program Name field when the cursor key is pressed while holding
down the SHIFT key in KGRP [F2], ZONE [F3], Zn TUNE [F4] and Zn MOD [F5] pages.
