Who should attend this course and why?

Practising Electrical and Instrument Engineers, Supervisors and Technicians who need to review their
core competency in the selection, installation, inspection and maintenance of electrical apparatus in
potentially explosive atmospheres to 60079-14/60079-17.

Course Pre-Requisites

A working knowledge and experience of electrical installation & inspection is required.

If not a

practicing electrician, it is advisable by JTL to enrol on the CompEx 5 day course to re-certify.

Course Overview

1 days course delivery will be given to the delegates and will cover the latest updates and refresh
the content of the current directives, and practices. Following delivery, the delegates are assessed in
maintenance, installation and inspection.

Aims

Revising and updating the requirements for the installation of electrical apparatus for use in
hazardous areas.

Objectives

At the end of the course you will be able to:

Understand the principles of flammable gas and liquids and area classification.

Know the principles of protection afforded by EX d, e, n, p and i apparatus, substances


and their symbols.

Understand the certification and marking of apparatus.

Understand ATEX 95 (equipment essential requirements).

Understand ATEX 137 (workplace essential requirements).

Summary of Course Content

Sources of ignition

Nature of hazards, identification of hazards

Area classifications zone 0, 1 and 2

Selection of apparatus, cabling, glanding and termination

Inspection and testing

Management and remedial work

Mode of Delivery / Method of Assessment

Combination of classroom delivery and simulations/written assessment.


Each candidate is required to demonstrate competence through a series of simulations and written
multi-choice question paper.

Mandatory Requirement

Course delegates must complete the JTL Registration Form and bring to the course along with your
valid CompEx EX01 to EX04 Certificate and photographic identification (ie passport).

Results

Results should be received approximately 5 weeks after the last day of the course.

Certification

Successful course delegates will receive a UK JTL Certificate of Core Competence valid for 5 years.
