Presentation of Reunion Island

Reunion is an island
located in the
Indian Ocean. The
island is 63
kilometers long,
45 kilometers
wide and covers
2512 squares
kilometers.

Reunion's localization
Reunion Island is in
the east of
Madagascar and 200
kilometers
southwest of
Mauritius, the
nearest island.

Reunions population
According to the 2013 census,
there are 840 974 people
living on the island.
Reunions population today is
naturally of mixed race,
bearing witness to the islands
history. The various types are
familiarly known as: Cafres ,
Zarabs, Malbars, Chinois, Yab
and Zoreil (Malagasy,
Africans, Indians, Chinese,
Europeans). Reunion's people
come from 3 continents at
least!

Reunionese music
Reunionese music is based on two original styles, in the deep roots:
the maloya and the sga. The maloya is similar to a ternary blues.
Music of the afro-Malagasy slaves, it existed for a long time in the
underground.
More European by its rhythms and its instruments, the sga is the
dance for parties.

Reunionese cooking
Reunionese cooking is a tasteful
alliance of spices, enhanced by
hot chili pepper, the harmony
with the tropical climate. This
art of cooking was passed on
from generation to generation.
From a simple base, the
multiplicity has given a full range
of cooking dishes.
A small rite wants that the rice is
placed at the bottom of the
plate, that grains are added on
the top and lastly, the dish.
Rougails (spicy dish) and achards
are served in a plate separately.

Reunions climate
Reunion benefits from a tropical
climate softened by the
breezes of the Indian Ocean.
The year is divided up into
two long periods: the warm
and humid season, from
November to April, and the
fresher and drier season
which runs from May to
October.
Sugar was traditionally the chief
agricultural product. Tourism is
now an important source of
income and its a paradise for the
hiking lovers!.

Reunions relief
Dominated by two towering
volcanic peaks, massive walls
and three cliff-rimmed
cirques, the island is a great
variety of rugged terrains and
impressive escarpments,
forested gorges and basins,
creating a visually striking
landscape.

The high school is a real melting-pot because

there are pupils of different social and
religious backgrounds. Different from one
another but we respect each other about
everything:
-Skin color
-Culture,
-Religion

Our differences but the same rules, the

same rights and the same duties for
everybody make us a real nice community.
