The Goshorns Step by Step

August 2015

The

We started off the month in Lima. After we saw our

team off at the airport we spent an extra four days
taking care of our yearly residency papers at the
immigrations office. I guess were becoming more
Peruvian because we cant wait to leave Lima and
head back to the more mountainous areas of the
country.
Jennifer continues at the women's prison on
Mondays. The guards at the door have changed, so
now they have some difficulty getting in. They still
have access, but are given a hard time. Please be in
prayer about this.
We also continue traveling to Tinyari on
Wednesdays to help out with the kids. Please
continue to pray that these children will continue to
grow in knowledge and faith in Christ.
Things are going great at the Orphanage. We can
see such difference in the staff and house moms
since this director has taken over. This is the third
director change this year, and everyone seems much
more happy and relaxed. She seems much kinder and
cares a lot more for the children.
Looking ahead weve been discussing teams for
next year. We have needs for both medical and
construction teams. The orphanage is in need of a lot

of repairs, such as windows, doors, paint, plumbing,

roof repairs and much more. We would also love to
have a kids club along with the construction team.
In addition, we have several locations for medical
and dental teams. We need doctors, nurses and
volunteers to help with everything else. Hosting
teams takes a lot of preparation and time,
therefore we need to know who is interested as
soon as possible.
Short term teams from the States really help build
relationships, open doors for sharing Christ and
allow us to start future discipleship groups. So
please prayerfully consider being a part of this
ministry.
Isaiah 52:7
How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who
bring good news, who proclaim peace,
who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation,
who say to Zion, Your God reigns!

We humbly thank you for your continued

prayers and financial support. If you
havent yet, we ask that you would
prayerfully consider financially supporting
this ministry in Peru. Without more
financial partners this ministry can not
continue to grow. We love you all and
thank you for being part of Gods work in

Accepting Christ for the Wrong Reasons

Last month I told you about our team that traveled to an area of Peru that no foreigners have travel to for 70
years. We went there to build relationships in order to share Christ. We did this by constructing a church building
so the people of this community would have a place to fellowship, and become stronger disciples for Christ. We
had Kids Club everyday so the children of the community could also fellowship and learn about Christ. This is just
a part of what happened that week. What I often times experience is that God is working in ways that we havent
planned for. This was the case during our week in Lucma.
Salvador, a Peruvian friend of ours is a huge part of most things we do here. Weve been blessed to have him in
our lives and he was a huge blessing to us and the team this week. Early on in the week Salvador informed us of a
woman that has been sick and in bed for two years. He asked if some of us could go and pray over her. When we
arrived we had to walk around the back of another building in order to get to her home. To say that people live
very primitively is an understatement. We had to climb a ladder up to an outside platform that had dark cloth
hung in order to keep the weather from her. Her name is Tiadora, and she has not left her bed in two years. She
has been in extreme pain all this time. Her family has not moved her from her bed and she cant see outside
because of the dark cloths used for walls and no windows. When we started talking with her we learned she
didnt speak Spanish, she spoke an indigenous language called Quechua. Fortunately, Salvador speaks Quechua.
We wanted to find out if she knew Christ. She informed us that she accepted Christ a few months earlier because
she wanted the pain to go away, but it didnt work. We informed her that you have to accept Christ for the correct
reasons. Just because you accept Christ doesnt mean your life will be better. In fact a lot of times life becomes
harder, and thats okay because were guaranteed eternity. She seemed to understand this and we prayed with
her for her eternal life and healing. Healing for her could be her eternal life. When we were leaving, the family
members were interested in knowing more and we found out that only the 28 year old daughter could read. We
visited them again and I gave the daughter a Bible and she seemed very thankful. Her and her husband, who
helped with the construction of the church, want to travel to Huancayo and visit with us. We will be sure to visit
with them when we return to Lucma.

Before you can have assurance of salvation, you have to believe and be saved. You have to confess Jesus
Christ as Lord. Some people assume they are saved because they grew up in a Christian home, or they have
gone to church all their lives, or they have been baptized, or they have tried to live a good life. Yet theyve
never personally confessed Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord.
The Bible teaches that we are all sinners separated from God by a sinful nature. We can never earn, buy, or
climb our way into heaven. We can never be saved by our own efforts. Thats why God became a man who
lived a wholly righteous life, died on the cross, shed His blood for us, and rose from the dead. He paid for our
sins, took our judgment upon Himself, and He offers us the opportunity to be born again and have eternal
life.
1 John 1:9 - If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us [our] sins, and to
cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Romans 10:9 - That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe
in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
