IBM Cognos Active Report


IBM Cognos Active Report outputs are self contained so all of the data that is returned by the queries is
included in the reports. As the amount of data increases, the MHT (Microsoft Hypertext Archive) file size
increases.

Deck
A Deck provides the report author the ability to manually create the desired number of cards. Decks are
useful when the content displayed on the cards differ from card to card.

Deck Item Steps:


The following example provides steps to how to use a Deck item that is controlled by a Radio Button
Group to display the same data in a crosstab and a list.
1. Within IBM Cognos Report Studio, create a new Blank Active Report.

2. From the available Toolbox items, drag the Radio Button Group object
onto the report.

Click on the Radio Buttons Definition icon located to the right of the Radio Button Group object and within
the Radio Buttons Definition dialog box, delete Button Label 3

4. Rename Button Label 1 to Crosstab and Button Label 2 to List, Click the OK. Click on the Radio
Button Group and give proper name
5. From the available toolbox items, locate the Deck item and drag it under the Radio Button Group
control.
6. Click on the Edit Deck Cards Definition icon located to the right of the Deck item. Within the Deck
Cards Definition dialog box, delete Card 3
7. Rename Card 1 to Crosstab and Card 2 to List, Click the OK. Give proper name to Deck

8. From the available Toolbox items, drag the Crosstab object onto the Crosstab card.
9. Drag and drop the required columns from available source item to Crosstab object.
10. Select the List from the Deck drop down.
11. From the available Toolbox items, drag the List object onto the List card.
12. Drag and drop the required columns from available source item to List object.

13. Click the Create a New Connection icon to the right of the Radio Button Group control.

14. Within the Create a New Connection dialog box ensure the Source is the Radio Button Group
control and the Target Control is the Deck. The Active Report Variable should be the Label with a
Default Value of the Crosstab.

15. Click the Connect button to make the connection and return to the report page.
If the IBM Cognos Active Report is executed, it will display two radio buttons. One named
Crosstab and the other named Crosstab. By default the user is presented with the Crosstab. The
user then has the ability to switch the view to a List by selecting the List radio button.

Report Output:
In the below sample output; user has selected the list button.
