First, every learned Jew will admit that the shield was in Nimrod's possession,
long before Dawid Melekh inherited it.
Secondly, what you failed to acknowledge it that fact that Nimrod was in a
war with Shem aka Malkhi-Sedek, which we find in the book of Bereshith 14...
Let me explain...
According to the midrash, the coats of skin which G-d made for Adam and Eve
found in Bereshith 3,21 were handed down from father to son, and thus came
into the possession of Noah, who took them with him into the ark, where they
were stolen by Ham.
Ham, later passed them down unto his son Kush, who in turn gave them to
Nimrod, and when the animals saw the latter clad (including the six pointed
star) in them, they bowed before him, which gave him the power to subdue
them.
The people, however, thought that these feats were due to his extraordinary
strength, so that they made him their king (Pire D'Ribbe Eliezer. 24.; "Sefer
ha-Yashar," (The book of Jasher).
Later there was a battle between Nimrod and Shem of which Avraham avinu
defeats Nimrod in battle... but not necessarily kills him. You must understand
that Nimrod was very powerful with both hunting and spiritual manipulation &
magic due to his possessions.
The Midrash later tells us the it was Esau the grandson of Avraham who
actually kills him, after he dies, to prove that he was the better hunter. After
defeating Nimrod, took with him the spoils of Nimrod. Pirkei D'Rebbi Eliezer

denied the resurrection of the dead, and he spurned the birthright." BT Mas.

"And Esa'u was forty years old when he married Judith the daughter of Beeri
the Hittite, and Bos'mat the daughter of Elon the Hittite. And they made life
bitter for Yis'haq and for Rivekha." Bereshith 26,34-35
And Esa'u saw that the daughters of Kena'an displeased Yis'haq his father.
Then Esa'u went to Yishma'el, and took, besides the wives he had, Mahalath
