Practical test: playing of intervals
Second Session: Rhythm
Brief review/answer the assigned worksheets

Time Signatures: Basic conducting, 9/8 and 12/8, compound duple, triple and
quadruple time
Ornaments: appoggiatura, accaciatura, upper and lower mordents
Practical test: Aural test (conduct time signatures)/ pitch test

diminished intervals, compound intervals, inversion of intervals
Key Signatures/Scales: Major- Minor, up to 7 sharps and 7 flats
Melodic decorations: notation of changing note patterns, trills and turns
Melodic decorations: accented passing notes, suspensions, notes of
anticipation, double appoggiaturas
Melodic and harmonic sequences
Practical test: analysis of sample pieces from books
Second Session: Rhythm/Harmony
Brief review/answer the assigned worksheets
Time Signatures: Basic conducting, 9/8 and 12/8, compound duple, triple and
quadruple time
Rhythm triplets and duplets
The Primary and Secondary Triads/chords
Chords in first and second inversion, the passing 6-4 and cadential 6-4
The dominant 7th, its inversions , resolutions and uses
The secondary 7th on the supertonic and subdominant, inversions and

Third Session: Dynamics/ Harmony

Harmony: median, Neapolitan 6th, diminished 7th and dominant 9th chords,
secondary 7th chords on I and VI, their inversions , resolutions and uses
Modulation from a major key to the dominant or relative minor: pivot chords
and abrupt modulations
Modulations to the subdominant key and the relative minor of the
subdominant
Recognition of rhythmic and melodic sequence
Harmonisation of a melody using a chordal bass pattern
Musical Listening/analysis of sample pieces from books
