1. SINGLE SHOT AUTO FOCUS


A. Wide focus area

(Focus mode switch in "S" position)

When the shutter release is half-pressed, one of the 11 focus


points is automatically selected and briefly indicated on the
EVF/LCD with a red rectangle.
Holding the shutter release halfway down keeps the focus
locked, which makes it possible to recompose the picture when
the subject is outside the focus frame.

OPTION: Direct Manual Focus

Wide focus brackets

(Default = Off)

Direct Manual Focus allows manual adjustments to be made after the AF system has
locked onto the subject. While holding the shutter release button halfway down, the
camera can be manually focused with the focusing ring. The DMF indicator and the
approximate object distance from the CCD are displayed near the frame counter.
DMF is set in section 4 of the recording menu.
If active, the Flex Digital Magnifier can be used (see below under Manual Focus).

B. Flex Focus Point (FFP)

(Default = Off)

OPTION 2: Fulltime Auto Focus

DMF after AF lock.

Spot AF mode, in which the cross-hair can be moved to any


point in the image area by the controller's four-way keys.
Once the cross-hair is in the required position a half-press of
the shutter release activates the Auto Focus. The cross-hair
turns briefly red to confirm focus.
Pressing the center button of the controller returns the crosshair to the center of the image area.
To switch between FFP and Wide Focus: press and hold the
center button. (Manual: p. 48)

OPTION 1: Direct Manual Focus

Focus lock

Continually focuses the camera without any touch on the


shutter release. A half-press of the shutter release locks the
focus.
When Fulltime AF is enabled, the activation depends on how
the grip sensor and monitors are set (see table).
Fulltime AF is set in section 4 of the setup menu.

When the shutter release is half-pressed, the camera


continuously tracks and focuses on the subject on which the
green cross-hair is positioned. Focus is confirmed by the focus
signal .
If the subject moves or the camera is panned, the cross-hair
will follow the subject (if the movement is not too fast). Focus
and exposure will change as the subject moves and lighting
conditions change. (Manual: p. 46)

B. Continuous AF

When the shutter release is half-pressed, the camera continuously focuses on the cross-hair spot, without tracking
the subject. Focus is confirmed by the focus signal .
Tracking AF can be disabled in section 4 of the recording menu. (Manual: p. 106)

3. MANUAL FOCUS

(Focus mode switch in "MF" position)

In manual focus mode, the camera is focused with the fly-by-wire focussing ring at the
base of the lens barrel.
The MF indicator and the approximate object distance from the CCD are displayed near
the frame counter.

OPTION: Flex Digital Magnifier

(Default = Digital zoom)

Manual focus

The Flex Digital Magnifier is a focusing aid for manual focus.


The live image can be magnified by X2 and X8 (A1) or X3.3
(A2).
A1: pressing the magnification button gives:
- first press :
2X magnification of framed area
- second press : 8X magnification of framed area
- third press :
cancels magnification.
A2: pressing the magnification button switches the 3.3X
magnification on or off.
The controller can be used to scroll and center the image
area. When the shutter release is half-pressed, the entire
image area is displayed. Flex Digital Magnifier is set in
section 3 of the recording menu. (Manual: p. 105)
