RECAP: The Rainiers scored 4 runs in the top of the first inning, but allowed 3 runs in each the 2nd and 7th innings as Tacoma fell to Salt
Lake 5-6 on Monday night. DH Mike Zunino (4x4, 2 R, 2 HR, 2 RBI) led the team with 4 hits, including hitting 2 solo home runs. CF James
Jones (2x4, R, 2 2B, BB) and 3B Leury Bonilla (2x4) each collected 2 hits, while RF Jabari Blash (1x4, R, HR, 3 RBI) hit his 22nd AAA home
run this season with a 3-run blast with 1 out in the first inning. LH Mike Montgomery (6.1,6,4,4,1,5) allowed 4 runs on 6 hits over 6.1 innings,
but did not factor into the decision. RH Logan Bawcom (0.1,2,2,2,1,0) recorded his 4th loss of the season, allowing 2 runs on 2 hits in the 7th
inning. LH Lucas Luetge (1.1,1,0,0,1,1) allowed 1 of 2 inherited runners to score, but was not charged with a run over the final 1.1 innings in
relief.
REHAB ASSIGNMENT: LH James Paxton began his rehab assignment with AAA Tacoma on Aug. 23. In 2 rehab starts with Tacoma he is 01 with a 9.82 ERA (4 ER, 3.2 IP). He was placed on the 15-day disabled list on May 29 with a strained tendon in the middle finger of his left
hand after leaving the game in the 5th inning with discomfort in his left hand on May 28 vs. Cleveland. Paxton is 3-3 with a 3.70 ERA (24 ER,
58.1 IP) in 10 starts this season with Seattle.
REHAB ASSIGNMENT: LH Joe Beimel began his rehab assignment with AAA Tacoma on Aug. 30. In 1 rehab appearance with Tacoma he
allowed the tying run to score 7th inning in G1 of DH on 8/30 vs. Nashville (1.0,1,1,1,1,1) Beimel was placed on the 15-day disabled list,
retroactive to August 20, with posterior inflammation in his left shoulder. He is 2-1 with 1 save and a 4.78 ERA (20 ER, 37.2 IP) with 19
strikeouts in 42 relief appearances with Seattle. Beimel was 2-1-1, 2.50 (10 ER, 36.0 IP) in his first 37 appearances this season, but has
allowed runs in his last five consecutive games (combined 1.2 IP, 8 H, 12 R, 10 ER, 5 HR, 3 BB, 1 HB, 0 SO) to nearly double his ERA. In all,
27 of his first 37 outings were scoreless. With AAA Tacoma he was 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA (0 ER, 3.2 IP) with 5 strikeouts in 3 appearances. He
signed a minor league contract with Seattle on April 2 and began the season in extended spring training before joining the Rainiers.
RAINIERS TEAM AWARDS: The Rainiers honred four players with yearly awards on Aug. 30. Forrest Snow (10-8, 4.11) was named Pitcher
of the Year and also earned the teams Community Service award along with fellow pitcher Logan Bawcom. Jesus Montero (.346/130x376)
was tabbed Offensive Player of the Year, and John Hicks (44.0% CS rate) was selected as Defensive Player of the Year.
MONTERO NAMED TO THE ALL-PCL TEAM: Tacoma Rainiers infielder Jesus Montero has been selected to the 2015 All-Pacific Coast
League Team, the league announced on Aug. 31. Montero, 25, played in 93 games with the Rainiers this season, batting .346 with 64 runs, 17
doubles, a career-high six triples, 16 home runs, and 75 RBI. His .346 batting average currently stands as the 2ndnd best mark in the league.
This marks the first time a Rainiers player was selected to the All-PCL team since catcher Rob Johnson earned the honors in 2008. Montero is
the 15th player in franchise history to be named a post-season all-star. Montero earned two trips to Seattle during the season, a brief stint from
July 9 19, and a second promotion on July 31. Montero earned his 6th career mid-season all-star selection when he was tabbed as the
starting first baseman for the PCL in the 2015 Triple-A All-Star Game. At the time of his selection he topped the league with 97 hits, and
ranked in the top five in games played, at-bats, RBI, and total bases. On June 2 against New Orleans, Montero went 4-for-5 with a double,
grand slam home run, and six RBI. The six runs he drove in against the Zephyrs matched a career high set in both 2011 and 2014. He also
belted a walk-off two-run home run on June 11 against Albuquerque in Tacomas 4-3 victory over the Isotopes. Montero opened the season
with a nine-game hitting streak, and notched a base hit in 15 of his first 16 contests. While with Tacoma, he notched 40 multi-hit performances,
and sent out multiple home runs in two games.
OF NOTE:
This season the Rainiers have recorded 10 or more hits in 67 gamesthe Rainiers are batting .279 (1331x4766) with 707 runs scored,
236 doubles, 37 triples, 146 home runs, 651 RBI and 152 stolen bases in 137 games.
o On the road the Rainiers are batting .286 (665x2289) with 345 runs scored, 130 doubles, 27 triples, 57 home runs, 312 RBI and 83
stolen bases in 65 games on the road and batting .273 (666x2442) with 362 runs scored, 106 doubles, 10 triples, 89 home runs, 339
RBI and 69 stolen bases in 72 games at Cheney Stadium.
OF Jabari Blash is batting .325 (26x80) with 24 runs scored, 3 doubles, 14 home runs, 25 RBI,14 walks and 1 stolen base over his last
24 games.
o Blash has hit 32 home runs this season, including 22 with Tacoma (tied for team lead)he is 1 of 4 players this season to hit at least
30 home runs in the minor leagues, ranking 2nd overallhis 22 home runs with the Rainers currently are the T5th-most among all
AAA players this season.
o Blash has hit 10 home runs in his last 15 games (w/AB) and 14 home runs in 28 games in August (w/AB)his 14 home runs in
August led all minor league playershe has also hit 20 home runs in 43 games (w/AB) since being transferred from Jackson to
Tacoma on July 16.
o Blash hit his 13th career multi-home run game on Aug. 30 vs. Nashville-G2 (2x3, 2 R, 2 HR, 3 RBI, BB)also his 4th multi-hit game
this season: Aug. 7 vs. Reno (3x4, 2 R, 2 HR, 3 RBI, BB), May 20 at Tennessee (3x4, 3 R, 2 HR, 2 RBI, BB, SB) and May 13 vs.
Biloxi (4x5, 2 R, 2 HR, 7 RBI).
INF Patrick Kivlehan has hit safely in 11 of last 12 games with 7 multi-hit contests, batting .408 (20x49) with 10 runs scored, 7 doubles, 5
home runs, 10 RBI and 3 walks.
1B Ji-Man Choi has hit safely in 6 of 11 games with Tacoma, including 6 straightoverall he is batting .371 (13x35) with 7 runs scored, 3
doubles, 1 home run, 10 RBI and 8 walks.
o Choi recorded a career-high 7 RBI on 8/26 vs. Memphis (4x5, 2 R, 2B, HR, 7 RBI), including hit a 1-out grand slam in the first
inninghis previous career-high in RBI was 5 set on May 21, 2013 at Bakersfield with High Desert (3x5, R, 2 2B, HR, 5 RBI).
o Chois 7 RBI matched the clubs season high set by Justin Ruggiano on June 27 against El Paso when he smacked three home runs.
Since being optioned from Seattle on July 30, INF Chris Taylor has hit safely in 22 of 31 games, batting .304 (36x120) with 19 runs
scored, 9 doubles, 1 triple, 2 home runs, 14 RBI, 23 walks and 2 stolen base.
In his last 71 games, since June 8, OF Stefen Romero has recorded 29 multi-hit contests, batting .300 (92x303) with 50 runs scored, 28
doubles, 2 triples, 9 home runs, 50 RBI, 8 stolen bases and 14 walks.
o Romero hit .308 (33x107) with 15 runs scored, 9 doubles, 2 triples, 4 home runs, 19 RBI, 4 walks and 4 stolen bases in 25 game in
July.
OF Justin Ruggiano has reached base safely in 44 of 49 games with Tacoma, batting he is batting .296 (53x179) with 27 runs scored, 9
doubles, 10 home runs, 29 RBI, 23 walks and 6 stolen base with Tacoma.
o Ruggiano has recorded 2 multi-home run games this season: June 27 vs. El Paso (3x4, 3 R, 3 HR, 7 RBI) and July 28 at El Paso
(3x4, 3 R, 2 HR, 5 RBI, BB).
RH Tony Zych has held opponents scoreless in 16 of his last 17 AAA appearances, going 1-1 with 4 saves and a 1.86 ERA (4 ER, 19.1
IP)...during this stretch, dating back to June 21, he has limited opposing players to a .214 (15x70) average, while walking 7 and striking
out 27.
o Zych allowed 4 runs in the 7th inning on Aug. 11 vs. Sacramento, snapping his scoreless inning streak at 17.0 innings. From June
22-Aug 11 (0.2 IP in the 6th inning), Zych tossed 17.0 scoreless innings combined between AA Jackson (7/5-20, 5.1 IP/5G) and AAA
Tacoma (6/21-7/4 & 7/23-8/11, 11.2 IP/10G)during this stretch he went 1-0 with 4 saves, while walking 4 and striking out 24.
RH Chien-Ming Wang was named PCL Pitcher of the Week, Aug. 10-16Wang made one start during the week, tossing a 9.0-inning
shutout at Oklahoma City on Saturday, August 15he held the Dodgers to just 3 hits while issuing 4 walks and striking out 2the effort
marks the first shutout for Wang since May 17, 2009 while playing for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (7.0,4,0,0,0,1)Wang had not
tossed a 9.0-inning shutout since July 28, 2006, his 2nd season with the New York YankeesWang is now the 2nd Taiwanese player in
PCL history to earn Pitcher of the Week honors, joining Las Vegas pitcher Hong-Chih Kuo, who was previously named the leagues
Pitcher of the Week for July 31-August 6, 2006Wang tossed the 2nd shutout by a Rainiers pitcher this season, joining RH Justin

SS Tyler Smith (1x4), DH Tyler Marlette (1x3) and C Marcus Littlewood (1x3) each collected 1 of the teams 4 hits. Starter James Gillheeney
(5.2,7,1,1,1,6) recorded his 6th AA loss this season, allowing 1 run on 7 hits over 5.2 innings. LH Brian Moran (1.0,0,0,0,2,0) and RH Trey
Cochran-Gill (2.1,0,0,0,1,4) combined to hold the Blue Wahoos scoreless over the final 3.1 innings in relief.
ROY HOWELL TAKES OVER AS MANAGER: The Seattle Mariners announced that hitting coach Roy Howell would assume managerial
duties for the Jackson Generals for the remainder of the 2015 season beginning June 30. Jim Horner, who had managed Seattles Double-A
affiliate since the beginning of last year, recently accepted an assistant coaching position at Washington State University. It marks the
second-consecutive season that Howell has taken over as manager for a Seattle affiliate. Last March, he replaced Rich Donnelly as the
manager at Triple-A Tacoma after Donnelly was named the Mariners third-base coach in Spring Training. He led the Rainiers to a 74-70
mark, and his 74 victories were tied for the 9th-most by a manager in his first full season. Howell, in his 4th season with the Mariners
organization, spent 2012 and 2013 with the High Desert Mavericks in the California League. His managerial resume includes 3 seasons at
short-season Eugene (2003-05), 3 seasons with San Luis of the California Collegiate League (2007-10) and 1 season leading the field staff
for the Road Warriors of the independent Atlantic League (2011). A former first-round selection by Texas in the 1972 draft, Howell logged
time in the PCL as a player with Spokane (1974) and Portland (1985), as well as 3 seasons as a hitting coach with Portland (2000-02).
