NEXT STEP
As we grow in our understanding of generosity, Dave
Ramseys Financial Peace University is a great way to
learn what God says about money. Through video teaching,
class discussions and interactive small group activities, FPU
presents Biblical, practical steps to get rid of debt, manage
your money, spend and save wisely, and plan for the future.
Facilitated by Jim and Jill Adkinson and Steve Cahill, this
nine-week course will take place Sundays at 3pm. Learn
more at fpco.org/smart.
THIS WEEK
Dr. Dan Sharp is will holding open interviews to join the
Fall 2015 Chancel Choir. You do not have to be able to
read music (though it helps!) Use the voice God gave
you in the joy of worship. Contact Dan at x1274 or email
dsharp@fpco.org.
NEXT SUNDAY
Our School of Discipleship
kicks off next week with
an awesome lineup of
courses starting at 9:45am.
Were offering opportunities
to grow as a disciple, dig
deep into the Bible, and
experience a richer, more
disciplined prayer life.

NOTES
TRADITIONAL WORSHIP
We are admonished in the Scriptures to pray for one
another within the body of Christ. Including the Pastoral
Prayer as a part of the worship service each week gives
us that opportunity. A portion of that prayer includes
our confession of sin and it also contains a substantial
amount of intercessory prayer. In the prayer the focus
moves away from us to the broader needs and concerns
of the church, community, nation, and world. We are
reminded of the bigger picture and those with greater
needs and concerns than our own. We are reminded of
those things that are true about the sovereignty of God.
As the host pastor prays, God may use their words to
trigger thoughts or concerns you have for people you
know. Pray along silently. You can add your quiet Amens
to what is being prayed. There is a difference to simply
listening to someone talk to God and praying along
with them. Like all aspects of corporate worship, active,
conscious participation enables the Holy Spirit to be
at work. May the Spirit be at work in our midst this day!

ABOUT COMMUNION
Today we celebrate the sacrament of Communion, also known
as the Lords supper, the story of which is found in Luke 22:719.
We believe in an open table. We invite every believer
who has publicly professed faith in Jesus to join us in this
celebration. We believe by the power of the Holy Spirit, that
the bread and the cup become for us the living presence of
the broken body and shed blood of Jesus. We do not believe
it becomes actual flesh and blood, but the spiritually living
presence of God through the Holy Spirit.
Presbyterian churches do not have altars like other
churches may. We have a table, symbolic of the Great Feast
of Thanksgiving we will one day enjoy with Jesus and the
heavenly host, as illustrated in Matthew 26:29 & Luke 22:1618.
We view the cross of Christ as the final and sufficient altar, on
which the ultimate sacrifice was made.
Suggestions for Celebrating Communion. Before serving the
bread and wine (non-alcoholic grape juice), the pastor will lead
the congregation in a time of prayer. During this time, confess
your sins to God; ways you have violated His commandments;
areas of your life where you are not living by faith; things you do
in an attempt to earn His favor.
While the bread is being served, meditate on what the death
of Jesus means for you; how the sins you confessed were laid
upon Him and paid for with His body. Rejoice that you do not
suffer Gods judgment because Christ suffered this judgment on
your behalf.
While the cup is being served, let it wash away your guilt, much
the way we are washed spiritually by the blood of the Lamb
(Jesus). One day, you will feast with God and all that your heart
desires will be fully satisfied. Take this time to confess specific
things that capture your heart more than God (approval of
others, success, your family, etc.). Rest in His presence.
