AC HIGH VOLTAGE AND MEGGER TEST

Insulation measurement by DC megger aims at observing insulation level before and after power frequency test. If
insulation value after is considerably much lower than before power frequency test, the switchgear or equipment
tested is considered experiencing insulation degradation; thereafter, the equipment is subject to further
examination.
Megger test is made to measure insulation between phases and each phase to ground. For Main circuit of MV
switchgear, the megger tension shall not exceed 10 kV dc with duration maximum of 5 seconds.
The power frequency test on the main circuit of switchgear is to demonstrate the
insulation capability. The switchgear shall pass the test if no flash over or
disruptive leakage current occur.
