ACADEMIC PROJECTS UNDERTAKEN
M.S. THESIS DETAILS
Title: Control Algorithms for Load Compensation in Power Distribution Systems Using DSTATCOM
Description: The increased use of non linear loads causing considerable disturbance in the distribution
system by drawing source currents as non-sinusoidal and asymmetric. These distorted wave forms have
significant adverse effects on utilities and the loads connected to system. An effective solution to alleviate
these problems is to use DSTATCOM at appropriate location in the distribution system. The selection of
control strategy for the DSTATCOM plays an important role to get desired compensation characteristics.
In the present work the theory of instantaneous symmetrical components is applied to explore
various control strategies of load compensation, under different supply voltages. An optimization based
control algorithm is proposed for load compensation to get an optimal performance between power factor
correction and total harmonic distortion of source currents.

B. Tech PROJECT DETAILS
Title: Speed Control of PMDC Motor using Microcontroller
Description: The main objective of this project is to precisely control the speed of PMDC motor, whose
usage is widespread in industrial, space and consumer applications. Pulse width modulation (PWM)
technique is adapted to vary the speed of the motor. In order to digitally the motor, AT89C51 microcontroller
based on 8051 core is employed with minimum hardware at a low cost.
