National artist Jose Joya was a pioneer modern and abstract artist who was active as a painter, printmaker, mixed-media artist and
ceramicist. It has been said that it was Joya who "spearheaded the birth, growth and flowering of absract expressionism" in the
Philippines. His mature abstract works have been said to be "characterized by calligraphic gestures and linear forces, and a sense
of color vibrancy emanating from an Oriental sensibility." Joya's sense of color has been said to have come from the hues of the
Philippine landscape, and his use of rice paper in collages demonstrated an interest in transparency.

The cultural treasure found in the early 1960s in Manunggul Cave, Lipuun Point, Palawan is a secondary burial jar.
The upper portion of the jar, as well as the cover is incised with curvilinear scroll designs and painted with natural
iron or hematite. On top of the jar cover or lid is a boat with two human figures representing two souls on a voyage
to the afterlife. The boatman is seated behind a figure whose hands are crossed on the chest. The position of the
hands is a traditional Filipino practice observed when arranging the corpse.
The burial jar which is unrivaled in Southeast Asia and considered as the work of a master potter, signifies the belief
of early Filipinos in life after death. It is dated to the late Neolithic Period, about 890-710 B.C

For example, females typically have higher vocal pitch than males, and vocal pitch can vary
by race (Hudson and Holbrook, 1982) and change with age (Stoicheff, 1981; Russell and
Penny, 1995; Nishio and Niimi, 2008). Other aspects of phonation and speech
characteristics, such as formant frequencies and vocal jitter, can also vary demographically
(Wilcox and Horii, 1980; Whiteside, 2001; Kasuya et al., 2008; Simpson, 2009). Demographic
characteristics can even interact with different noise or device conditions to affect speech
intelligibility (Junqua, 1993).
While pitch is obvious a large factor, if I (a male) increase the pitch of my voice on a sound
editing program, it still wouldn't sound female. What other differences account for our ability
to distinguish male voices from female voices? I'm interested mainly in the actual sounds
themselves, not cultural aspects.

The can-can is a high-energy and physically demanding music hall dance, traditionally performed by
a chorus line of female dancers who wear costumes with long skirts, petticoats, and black stockings.
The cha-cha-cha, or simply cha-cha, is the name of a dance of Cuban origin
