First Passport for Children born in the UK

Original Passports of both the parents are required to be shown at the time of
submission of application for issue of Passport for a Child and self-attested
photocopies of Passports/visa of both parents are also required to be submitted along
with the application form for the Childs Passport. If either of the spouse names is not
entered in their passports, copy of marriage certificate is required to be submitted.

While applying in person for the Childs Passport, both parents have to present
themselves at the counter. If one of the parents is unable to come to the High
Commission or its respective Consulates, then an authority/consent letter should be
given by the parent not appearing, authorizing the other parent to apply alone. This
is addition to the required affidavit and signatures on page 2 of the application form

Photocopy of Birth Registration Certificate issued by the Consular Section of


the High Commission or its respective Consulates.

For a child with single parent, a sworn Affidavit attested by a Magistrate


stating about custody/reason for being single parent and taking legal responsibility
for any dispute in future from other parent is required to be submitted. (please click

Time Frame for service:4-6 weeks from the date of submission of application

Registration of birth of a minor child at an Indian consulate under section 4(1) of the
citizenship act, 1955

Eligibility Criteria
A person may submit an application for registration of birth of his minor child
born outside India in terms of sub-section(1) of section 4 in Form I to the Indian
consulate in the country, where such child was born, together with a declaration
that the child does not hold the passport of any other country.
The applicants are advised to carefully go through the provisions of the
Citizenship Act, 1955 and rules named there under to determine their eligibility
for Indian citizenship.

List of required documents


A copy of the birth certificate of the child
A copy of the Indian passport of both the parents

A copy of the certificate of Indian citizenship if acquired by


registration/naturalization
A copy of the marriage certificate of the parents
Declaration letter that the child does not hold the passport of any other country
