is wearing either a red or blue hat. Each person does not know the color of their own hat or that
of anyone behind them, but can see the hat colors of all people in front of them. Starting from the
back person, who can see all 99 other hats, and then going forward one by one, each person must call
out a color, red or blue. If this color is not the color of their own hat, they will immediately be shot,
which everyone else can hear. Nobody is allowed to communicate in any way with the others except
by calling out their color, and being shot...or not. However, the people are allowed to come up with
a strategy before they line up and the hats are placed on their heads. Devise a strategy for as many
people as possible to escape alive.
