St Marcianosos & St Martyrios of Constantinople

The Holy Martyrs, St Marcianos and St Martyrios, Notaries of Constantinople, had

served in a Constantinople Cathedral.
St Marcianos was a Reader and St Martyrios a Subdeacon.
They were both Notaries - Secretaries - of St Paul the Confessor and Patriarch of
Constantinople.
Arian heretics expelled and secretly executed the Righteous Patriarch, St Paul,
whose Patriarchal Throne was taken over by the heretic, Macedonios.
The heretics attempted to entice St Marcianos and St Martyrios over to their side by
flattery. They offered the Saints gold and promised to consecrate them as
Archbishops, but all the efforts of the Arians were in vain.
Then the impious heretics threatened to slander them before the Emperor, and tried
to intimidate them with threats of torture and death.
However, St Marcianos and St Martyrios steadfastly confessed Orthodoxy, as
handed down by our Holy Church Fathers.
On 25 October 335, St Marcianos and St Martyrios were sentenced to death but the
two Saints remained serene, and they calmly prayed: O Lord God, Who
invisibly created our hearts, and directed all our deeds, accept with Peace
the souls of Thy servants, since we perish for Thee, and are considered as
Sheep for the slaughter. (PSALM 32/33:15; 43/44:22).
We rejoice that by such a death we shall depart this life for Thy Name. Grant us
to be Partakers of Life Eternal with Thee, the Source of life.
When St Marcianos and St Martyrios had completed their Prayers, with quiet
rejoicing, they bent their necks beneath the sword of the executioners, and were
thereby Perfected worthily receiving Glorious Crowns of Victory.
Their Sanctified bodies were reverently buried by Orthodox Christians and after
many years, by a Decree of St John Chrysostom, the Holy Relics of the two
Faithful Martyrs were transferred to a church built in their honour.
Believers throughout the ages have received Divine Healing of many infirmities
physical and spiritual - through the Intercessory Prayers of the Saints, and for
the Glory, Honour and Worship of the Life-Creating Holy Trinity.
