ACTIVITY REPORT

Title: TB Patrol Activity in Maguing, Lanao del Sur

8. Objective: This activity aims to
Assist/Aid the local NTP team of the RHU in order to help its case-finding activity;
Provide health teaching to the community members to help raise community
awareness and compliance of the patients to treatment;
To provide on-site validation of smearing activities conducted by the local NTP
Team and their trained smearer/s; and
To assess the facility in terms of availability of their smearing area and supplies.

The TB Patrol Activity in Maguing was held on May 20, 2015 at the

residential lot of the barangay chairman in Barangay Bato-Bato, Maguing. A short


program was conducted at 9:30AM. Dr. Anisah Hadji Salic, the Rural Health
Physician of Maguing, hosted the short program. She also said that the people of
Brgy. Bato-Bato is expressing their cooperation in the implementation of TB
program in their locality. Dra.Apasrah M. Mapupuno, the Provincial NTP Medical
Coordinator, in behalf of the Management Team of IPHO, welcomed the
community members who were present that time and also the other members of
the healthcare team. She also delivered a short background on what is TB and
why clients must adhere to treatment. Dra.Sylvia Delosa also thanked the people
who are around and encouraged them to inform other members of the
community to avail the TB services offered by the RHU. She also added that as
Muslims, it is the responsibility of the people to take good care of their health in
order to worship Allah (SWT) better and to help his fellow also. The barangay
LGU also expressed their gratitude in the selection of their barangay and support
in health activities/services implemented in their area. Maam Omailyn
Abdulmalik, the Provincial NTP Nurse Coordinator, conducted a health teaching
activity that discussed what is TB, the signs and symptoms of TB, the
misconceptions and the facts about TB, the Ubokabularyo (cough etiquettes), the
diagnosis and treatment of TB, and answered questions raised by the listeners.
She also asked the listeners if there are some of them who experienced any
signs and symptoms mentioned in the earlier discussion and some raised their
hands. Maam Abdulmalik encourage them to submit themselves to DSSM. Dra.

Shalimar S. Rakiin, the Provincial Health Officer I of Lanao del Sur, was able to
attend the activity and delivered a short message that the IPHO and the PBSP
IMPACT are working hand in hand in order to improve the delivery of NTP
services in their localities and in Lanao del Sur. The TB Jingle was also played
after the program.

There were 26 clients coming from Barangay Bato-Bato, Maguing
who submitted their sputum specimens for sputum examination. The said activity
will not be made possible without the support and joint efforts of the different
sectors/ stakeholders such as the RHU Marogong LGU and the RHU Team, the
IPHO Lanao del Sur personnel, the PBSP and IMPACT, and the community
people.

14. Recommendations:
There should be more trained smearers and microscopists for Maguing.
TB Tracking board should always be updated and clients undergoing treatment
should always be monitored to facilitate compliance.
TB health education should be prioritized in order to raise community awareness
and correct misconceptions regarding TB.
Conduct regular mass TB sputum examination and outreach programs in other
barangays in the locality in order to make the services available for those who
cannot readily go to the RHU, and to improve the casefinding activity in the
Municipality.
Tap the help and assistance of Muslim Religious Leaders (MRLs), in addition to

the support from BLGU officials, in order to intensify the delivery of NTP services
in the Municipality.
