Q 5 Answer the following

L- 1 Networking Concepts
Q 1 What is networking ? Give some relevant example.
Ans-1 A network is a group of device connected with one another . A computer network is a
collection of computers and peripheral device are connected by communication network . For egcable network , television network , telephone network
Q 2 List some advantages of networking?
Ans-2 Some advantages of networking are: Speed, efficiency, security, centralized software
management , resource , sharing . 1 ) Speed- sending and receiving files using computer network . Its
save time and its more convenient. 2) Efficiency in a network the deletion , modification or
upgradation of the software / data is to be done at a single point only . This brings more efficiency
and effectiveness into working system.
Q - 3)Differentiate between LAN and WAN .
Ans -3
LAN
WAN
1) LAN is a restricted to a limited
geographical area
2)In LAN computer terminals are
physically connected with wires .
3) Data speed is slow
4) A few data transmission error occurs .

1) WAN covers greater distance and

operates nationwide .
2)In WAN , Computer terminals are not
physically connected with wires
3) Data speed is fast
4) Larger data transmission error occurs

Q - 4) What do you understand by network security ?

Ans -4 Network security means protecting data and resources from access by unauthorized person .
There are two general levels of network security
1 Login Security You are given a unique login name and password .
1. Rights security Based upon your user name , you are given rights like Read-Only Access or
Read-Write Access or No Access at all . A combination of rights can also be granted to the
same user for different sets of data .
Q-5Explain Client-Server network .
Ans-5 It is a network where several computers called clients or workstations are connected to the
main computer called the server .
Q-6 What is a database ? Give examples of database .
Ans- 6 A database is a systemically organized or structured repository of indexed information that
allows easy retrieval updating , analysis and output of data stored usually in a computer . This data
could be in the form of graphics , reports , scripts , tables , text etc representing almost every kind of
information eg- Telephone diary , a dictionary .

Q-7 Explain any four features of MS Access .

Ans 7 1) Access provides the facility to break large information into small parts , so that it is easy
to access the information .
2) Data redundancy is reduced .
3) It increases the efficiency , speed and flexibility in searching and accessing information.
4) Access facilities sharing of data .
5) Different users can use the same database to extract data according to their needs .
Q-8 Wha5v are the types of database ? Explain each of them briefly.
Ans -8 There are two types of database
1) Flat File Database - A flat file database can store and retrieve information . It is not capable of
linking the files together .
2) Relation database- A Relation database links separate tables together to get a common piece of
information .

L-3
Q-9 What is a table ?

Ans 9 A table is a collection of rows and columns that is used to store database information . A
table can have maximum to 255 columns with unlimited rows . In a database we cannot have two
tables with the same name .
Q-10 What do you mean by Data types
Ans-10Datatypes are used to declare the fields of a table. A data type determines the type of data , a
particular field can accept . Once the data type is defined , we cannot a different type of data . For egYou cannot enter letters in a field set to numbers .
Q-11 What is the use of primary key ?
Ans -11 A primary key is a key that differentiates the records in afile . The data stored in a key field
contains data that is unique to a specific record . A student record for eg - would use roll no as a key
field because it uniquely identifies each student .
Q-12 How will you insert a new field in an existing table ?
Ans-12We can insert a new field in an existing table by the following ways 1) Select the table name
and click on the view button on the datasheet t6ab . Select design view option from the drop down
menu .
2) Click on the row where you want to add a new field .

Q- 13 How will you delete a record ?

Ans 13 We can delete a record through the following ways
1)

To delete a particular row/column

2)Select the record or entire column by clicking on the row header.

3) Press the delete key or right click .
4) Then select delete record /column option > the context menu option .
5) Then dialog box appears asking your confirmation . Click on Yes to confirm the deletion . Click no
if you want to cancel the deletion .

Q-14 How will you sort the data within a table ?

Ans-14 Sorting means arranging the record in a particular order , ascending or descending . To sort
the records follow the steps
1)

Open the table that you want to sort.

2)

Click on the column header for the field.

3)

Click on the home tab on the ribbon.

4)
Click on ascending to sort the records and click on descending to sort the records in
descending order .

Q-15 How will you add a new row to a table ?

Ans -15 To add ca new record , place the cursor at the last field of a record and press the tab key .
The cursor will appear in the new row . Now enter the new record according to the fields .
L:4
Q-16 What is a query?
Ans: A query is a database object that creates a datasheet of specified records form one or more
tables. One of the rasons you store rlated data in tables is to analyze it form different perspectives. To
do this, you use a query to view only the fields with the required information.
Q-17 Explain the parts of a query window.
Ans:Query window is dividd into two panes: the top pane contains the table(s) selected for the query
and the bottom pane contains the design grid.
Q-18 What do you understand by Criteria?
Ans:Criteria a mean By using criteria, you can easily accomplish any of these tasks, and many more.
This mean that both conditions must be true in order for the records to appear. While these criteria are
all fairly simple, each one can help you carry out meaningful searches.s
Q-19 Into how many types a query can be categorized?
Ans:Two types of query can be categorized are as follows: 1) Query wizard 2) Query Design.
Q-20Explin how to add fields to query.
Ans:To add all fields present in a field list to the design grid, double-click on the top bar of the
tables field list and drag it to the design grid.
Q-21 What is a form? Briefly explain its use .
Ans: Forms are much like paper form. You can use them to enter, edit, or display data. They are
based on tables. When using a form you can choose the format, the arrangement and which fields you
want to display.
Q-22 What is a Report?
Ans: A report is a database object that we use to display and summarize data .Reports provide a way
to distribute or archive snapshots of your data, either by being printed out.
