Statement by Robert-Falcon Ouellette

Campaign: Pat Martin Does Not Live on
Saltspring Island
Media Release - Sept 16, 2015
On Saturday September 12th, NDP MP Pat Martin personally expressed
concerns to Liberal Candidate for MP Robert-Falcon Ouellette that his
constituents were being misinformed that he no longer lives in Winnipeg
Centre, and that he lives on Salt Spring Island in British Columbia.
Mr. Martin has publicly stated that he will sue for libel anyone who suggests
that he lives on Salt Spring Island. As Mr. Martin told the Winnipeg Free Press
I know a thing or two about libel. We defer to his expertise in this area.
Therefore, we wish to make it absolutely clear that the official position of
Robert-Falcon Ouellette and his campaign for Liberal MP in Winnipeg Centre,
in public and in private, is that Pat Martin does not live on Salt Spring Island.
It is true that former NDP Leader Jack Layton, writing in his book: "Speaking
Out Louder: Ideas That Work For Canadians thanked "Martin and his wife for
loaning their Saltspring Island farmhouse for secluded writing

This visit occurred during what Global News described as an extended

sabbatical during summer on Salt Spring Island, where Mr. Martin does not
live.
The Parliament of Canadas Members expenditure report for 2014-15 show
that on July 4, 2014, Pat Martin spent $84.08 with three guests at The Beach
House in Vancouver, and on July 11, 2014, he spent $284.44 at The
Laughing Oyster in Powell River with three guests to celebrate a significant
event.
Both restaurants are in the province of British Columbia, as is Salt Spring
Island, where Pat Martin does not live.
When Pat Martin says he does not live on Saltspring Island, British Columbia,
we take him at his word.
