REFLECTION PAPER
On August 24, 2015, I watched the opening of the USC days 2015. I
felt very excited that I woke up at 4:00 AM to prepare so I can witness the
cheer dance competition which is one of the highlights of the opening
program. Cheer dancing and pop jazz competition are my favorite events in
USC days because they involve dancing. I arrived at 5:30 AM with the
Anselmo Bustos gym almost full already which was so unlike before wherein
the gym was only just half full that students can still occupy the east side. I
felt very relieved knowing Isaiah was able to reserve me, Irish and my two
other friends seats though the seat competition was very tough.
Since we arrived very early, we had to wait for several hours for the
program to start which really tested my patience. Waiting for hours and a
gym with no proper ventilation is a very bad combination but my
anticipation and excitement overweighed all the negativity that I was
feeling. According to the program, the opening will start at 7:30 AM but as
what I've remembered, it started at 8:30AM. Im kind of getting used to late
programs because for three years that Ive stayed in the institution, I can
only count with my fingers the events really that started on time.
When the masters of ceremonies spoke, I cannot put into words the
happiness I felt for the long wait was over. I shouted at the top of my lungs
to show my support to the college where I belong, SBE. The event started
with a dance presentation by the dance troupe. I am not quite sure if it was
Nio I saw dancing on the floor. Questions popped into my mind, What
would happen to me if I were active?, What if happen if I really pursued in
dancing?, What would have been my life if I joined USC dance troupe? It
was once one of my goals to be part of a dance club in college but my
roommate warned me how strict the choreographer, Mam Paclijan, was and
how she'd let her classmate AB Political Science shift to BS Education so he
can continue to have his scholarship and have more time to practice and the
possibility of not keeping up with my studies. Knowing that BS Accounting
requires a lot of time practicing/solving/studying, I never thought of
auditioning again. Honestly, I envied Nio because he was there. He was
part of the troupe, part of one of my dreams.
After the entrance of the players of the intramurals, Mr And Ms
Intramurals went next. The SBE's representatives were really good and
both got the title deservingly. Senator Grace Poe out of a sudden arrived
during the opening. I really dont believe that she went to USC to witness
the cheer dance competition though that was what the press is saying. She
gave a talk about how she will support the increase of the internet speed in
the Philippines for it is everybodys right. She added that the current
households are overpaying for slow internet connection.

The cheer dance competition followed. SAFAD went first. With their
performance, they have put a lot of pressure for the next contestant for they
only committed few mistakes and their stunts were not recycled from the
past years. I don't really remember the correct sequence of the participants
but I felt a bit disappointed for the SBE cheer dance because their piece
was the exact opposite of SAFAD's. They had only few new stunts. SBE
cheer dance used to be the crowd's favorite. Every after piece performed, I
always look up and thank God that everyone is safe. I felt traumatized at the
SHCP cheer dance accident last year. The winners this year are SAS for 1 st
place, SAFAD for 2nd place, and SBE for 3rd. The SBE cheer dance may not
have the first place but I will continue to morally support them. I believe
that they are good and the time will come that the crown will be back to
them. I really had fun and I salute to the organizers for the success of the
event. I hope that SBE will be the overall champion again.
