Required Navigation Performance (RNP)

RNP is a statement of the
navigation performance (in nautical
miles) necessary for operations
within a defined airspace

RNP is RNAV which incorporates:

Reduced obstacle clearance areas
Constant radius, curved flight paths
Lateral/vertical guidance

Key Elements of RNP

Specified level of performance and capability
Flight path conformance with high degree of
accuracy and repeatability
Procedure design flexibility around airspace
and obstacles through the missed approach

Onboard avionics keep aircraft

within a tightly specified
airspace corridor

Characteristics of an RNP AR Approach

RNP AR approach procedures can have
up to 4 lines of minima (RNP 0.3 0.1)
Will include lines of minima for RNP 0.3 if
possible
When beneficial procedure designers will
include lines of minima for lower RNP values
RNP 0.1 is the lowest allowed

An AR / SAAAR approach will

always be clearly labeled as such
