Practical Nursing (PN) Level Competencies (PN Exit)

1.

The exam consists of 180 questions and covers all topics of the NCLEX. Budget your time for 1-question per minute.
You will be allowed a maximum of 3 hours to complete the exam. You will need a 96% predicted probability of passing
NCLEX-PN on the first attempt to be successful with this test.

The exam will be available at Testing Services Main Campus Only.

Testing Services Hours are:

Mon Thurs 8:30am 8:30pm (testing must end by 8:30pm)

Fri 8:30am 4pm (testing must end by 4pm)

The exam may be taken on Saturdays. Testing Center is open from 9:00 to 12:00. It takes approximately 3 hours to complete
the exam. You need to start promptly at 9:00 to complete the exam by 12:00. Technical support from ATI services is not
available on Saturdays; therefore if there is a problem during the exam it would have to be completed on another day (they will
be able to retrieve the portion of the exam taken). The Business Office is not open on Saturdays, so you will need to pay for the
exam ahead of time.

Call 574-6815 to schedule an appointment. (You MUST make an appointment.) There are a limited number of
computers, so schedule your test early.

Remember that the test takes approximately 3-hours to complete, so dont schedule for anything less. Appointments will
be scheduled within the Testing Services hours of operation.

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR TESTING

Test pass (received in class or may be picked up in person from Ms. Charles [970/302D])

Paid receipt from the Business Office


-- Submit the test pass to the Business Office, 410/124A, along with the $48.00 fee

During testing, you may NOT:


Use any written/audible materials
Discuss test with other students
Use your own calculator. There is one provided on the computer with the test.

When you arrive to take the exam, the Testing Services personnel will take you to a computer where you will enter your
name and social security number. You will create your own password this should be something that you will not forget.

When the exam is completed, you will receive a printed copy of your results at the Testing Services front counter. The
front sheet and the yellow copy of the test pass must be turned in to Ms. Charless mailbox located on the third
floor of the 970 building.

10. The deadlines for receiving incentive points (1.0 or 0.5) for successful completion of PN Level Competency will
be posted in the NUR 209 calendar before the beginning of class. (Review the policy in the Student Nurses
Handbook for further information)
11. To prepare for the test you should use your textbooks/class notes, NCLEX review books or on line NCLEX review sites,
NCLEX review videos/DVDS in the library and NCLEX 4000 tests in computer lab in 630, 920/740, and NRC. (No
password necessary. Click on Nursing, the NCLEX icon, select review feature and then individual test.) The NRC has
ATI DVDs and reference materials. There are additional resources on the ATI website www.atitesting.com which are
available at your own expense.
12. If you do not score 96% probability on the initial attempt, you must e-mail the form Documentation of Preparation Form
(in course content) to Ms. Charles via the D2L e-mail to arrange for additional testing and to receive a test pass. There is
also a test review you may access at www.atitesting.com, for no additional cost, and information regarding this
remediation is in the course content in D2L.
13. IT IS RECOMMENDED YOU WAIT ONE WEEK BEFORE ATTEMPTING THIS EXAM AGAIN. This will allow you time
to review and be fully prepared before attempting the exam again.
14. The initial test and any subsequent tests are at the students expense ($48.00/test session).
15. If you do not pass the test the second time or third time, you will need to follow the procedure as outlined Student Nurses
Handbook, Assessment of Practical Nursing (PN) Level Competencies policy.
