Fundamental changes (the Parisian style): had at least 45 members,
clarinet becomes the fundamental melodic instrument.
Important advancements that led to this: brass and wind all gain equal
facility; almost all chromatic; sax is invented; formal training of civilian
musicians (the French Revolution); the wind octet continues to be
important AND it becomes the nucleus for expanded instrumentation;
the first treatise on how to write for winds will be written.
