This procedure is used for performing an annual Preventive Maintenance

(PM)
on Flow Transmitter (FT) Electrical (Standard and Smart) and Pneumatic:
To ensure the Flow Transmitter operating as require
To ensure the calibration range does not deviate from the calibration set
point
Hazards
Passing isolation valve
Trapped Pressure
Pinch Points
High Pressure
Sharp Edges
Electrical Spark

Possibility presence of H2S gas.

Possibility presence of Benzene, Norm.
Possibility presence of mercury (recent finding at TaP, GuA, GuD, PaA&
LrA)
General Precautions
Ensure no hydrocarbon gas is present before opening explosion proof
cover
Remove wires carefully to prevent shorting and sparks
Avoid placing fingers in between pinch points
Bleed off trapped pressure before opening connections
Wear Hand Gloves
Remove tubing connections carefully
Ensure tubing connections are tight when putting back in service
Open isolation valves slowly and look for leak
Perform benzene and mercury testing (if required)
Ensure all safety or fire protection systems are operational and working
properly
Special Equipment/Tools/Material Required
In addition to the tools normally required for the job, the following may
also be required based on the specific job scope:
HART Communicator
Hand Pump
Loop Calibrator

STEP 1:

ISOLATION

ACTION
1 Identify the FT to be worked on.
2 Check the effect of transmitter
calibration will have on the process
system.

REMARKS
Caution:
Note:
i) FT with s/down features:
Coordinate with Production
Technician to prevent process
upset require:
bypass/disable/isolate or put
control loop to manual mode:Operator to monitor process
while FT
calibration is being carried out.
ii) FT without s/down features:
(Alarms, flowrate reading, or
recorder purposesNo bypass require-Alert and
informed production of the job
to be carry out
i) Manifold A, B, C and D will
OPEN
ii) Manifold E, F and G will
CLOSE

4 Start to Isolation:1. Open - E and G manifold for

equalizing the valve and wait
a second.

Warning:
This ensures DP cell
(diaphragm) will
not be damaged during
isolation.

2. Close A, B, C and D
manifold upstream and
downstream of isolation valves
of flow transmitter.
Follow Lock and Tag (LOTO)
requirement.

3. Bleed off trapped pressure in

FT by opening bleed isolation
valve F gradually until zero
pressure is obtained.

(Electrical - Smart)
STEP 2: TEST PROCEDURE
1

ACTION
Hook-up the HART Communicator and
flow input source (Hand Pump) to the
transmitter.

2 Before make any ZERO Calibration,

take reading first on FT with HART
Comm.
3 Make a simple cart:As Found

REMARKS
Apply Hand Pump at High
Range (H) beside A manifold or
Lower Range (L) beside B
manifold.
The reading must be ZERO.

The actual reading must be:As Left
