Guidelines for Scientific Research Competition

Local Organizing Committee


APDSA 2015 Taiwan

The scientific research competition (SRC), which is divided into oral and poster
presentations, will be held in the morning of Aug 12, 2015 at Sunworld Dynasty Hotel
Taipei. All participants are required to conform to this guideline, which regulates the
rules of the competition.

1. Eligibility
The SRC is open to all students currently enrolled in a BDS/DDS/DMD program
from APDSA member countries. Graduate students (MDS program) are not eligible for
the competition.
Entries in both oral and poster categories under one name is acceptable, but must
be of different topic. It should be noted that the LOC will not be responsible for the
presenting sequence, which will be decided by a fair draw. Each person can only join
the competition with one oral presentation and one poster presentation at most.

2. Categories
(1) Oral presentation
Competitors will give a 10 min speech in English facilitated with PowerPoint
in front of the judges and delegates. A 5 min Q&A time will follow immediately
after the prepared speech.
(2) Poster presentation
Posters conforming to the given format below will be presented for the whole
morning. Competitors will be required to show up for a 10 min introduction and
Q&A time to the judges at the designated time.

3. Submission and Selection


All participants are required to send their projects to apdsa2015src@gmail.com
before the following dates
Abstract Admission Deadline: March 21st, 2015
Abstract Selected Announcement: April 21st, 2015
Deadline of Manuscript Submission: April 30th, 2015
Please note that the abstract should be within 150~200 words and must contain
Introduction, Methods, Results and Discussion. Only the selected participants
are required to show up for presentation on Aug 12, 2015.

4. Criteria
Your work will be judged by
Originality and design
Quality of data
Suitability of methods
Scientific value
Demonstrated mastery of subject will also be considered during the presentation
competition.

5. Format
There is a format of the manuscript at the end of this document. Please make sure
that you conform to it before you send us your manuscript.
Formats for the oral and poster presentation will be sent to the presenters after the
selected works are announced.

Format (APA style) for Scientific Research Competition, APDSA 2015

1. General
(1) All letters should be typed in 12 point Times New Roman.
(2) Click here for an example. If unclear, please search for APA style online.

2. Title Page
(1) Article title (Centered on the page)
(2) Author (Double-spaced and centered)
(3) Institution (Double-spaced and centered)
(4) Running head in the upper left corner of all pages (In uppercase letters with the
first page starting with Running head:)
(5) Page number in the upper right corner (Title page labeled as 1)

3. Abstract
(1) The word Abstract should be centered on the page.
(2) The abstract should be between 150-200 words, with abbreviations and
acronyms used in the paper defined.
(3) Do not indent the first line of the abstract paragraph.
(4) Running head (Without Running head) and page number located as in the title
page.

4. The Main Body


1. The main body should include introduction, method, results, discussion, etc.
2. The title should be centered but not bolded, italicized or underlined.
3. A level 1 heading (e.g. Discussion) should be centered, bolded and in title case
(only principle words start with capital letters).
4. A level 2 heading (e.g. Limitation of These Studies) should be flushed to the
left margin, bolded and in title case.
5. A level 3 heading (Technological limitations) should be indented from the left
margin, bolded, in lower case (except the first letter) and with the text
following immediately.

6. Running head (Without Running head) and page number located as in the
title page.
7. Direct in-text citations should include the authors name and the year of
publication.

5. References
1. Start the reference list on a new page, with References on the page.
2. Arrange every citation mentioned above in alphabetical order.
3. Do not underline or italicize the list except for the name of journal (italicized).
