THE HIGHLIGHT ACTING TROUPE WILL BE

PRESENTING THEIR CHILDRENS PRODUCTION OF HAPPILY FOREVER AFTER written by
Charlie Lovett on Friday and Saturday, October 2, 3,
at 7:30 pm and Sunday, October 4 at 2:00 pm. The
show will be performed at the Brunswick Grange, Rt. 7
and 142. Ticket prices are $12 for adults and $7 for students. The show is directed by McKenzie LeVan assisted
by Kathryn Capalbo.. Snow White, Cinderella, and
Goldilocks all got their happy endings. But happily-everafter isnt quite what the gals imagined it would be. Its
just TOO happy with all the helpfulness, charm, and generosity of their adoring princes! While they are busy planning ways to bring a bit more normalcy into their lives,
another princess is hoping to find her own happy ending.
Princess Wallflower is considering many suitors, but she
only wants the handsomest of them all. When the vile,
scheming Bad Bart kidnaps her, the princess is initially
impressed by his handsomeness and agrees to marry him.
So much for first impressions! Once she realizes hes
bad (after all, its in his name), she begins to hope a handsome prince will come to her rescue. Of course, all the
princes in the kingdom are out searching for her, including the hubbies of Snow White, Cinderella and
Goldilocks. This gives the ladies a chance to get back to
normal. And what lucky suitor shall win the hand of the
beautiful Princess Wallflower? In an ironic twist with a
nice message to boot, it might just be Bernard the Beast.
For reservations call Ethel at 518-237-6936. We ask that
all ticket be prepaid.

THE PAINTINGS OF D. STEVENS BURGESS AT THE CCC
A new exhibit featuring the artwork of Salem artist, D. Stevens
Burgess, will be on display during October and November in the
first floor Benn Room of the Salem Courthouse Community Center. Stevens was born in New Delhi, India and studied art in
Bangkok, Thailand and New York. His exhibit contains impressionistic work focusing on land, water and the natural world. His
studies are creations of his own imagination, and he no longer
uses points of reference in any of his pieces. His tones are subtle,
and his paintings draw the viewer into the landscape in a most
relaxing manner. Stevens has exhibited his work in several area
galleries with this being his fourth exhibit at the CCC. The Benn
room is handicap accessible and open to the public.

BUS TRIP- The Notre Dame-Visitation Fundraising Committee is sponsoring a bus trip to 9-11 Memorial in New York City

FIVE RED FLAGS THAT SPOOK YOUR LENDER

Curt Covington, senior vice president of
agricultural finance at Farmer Mac says the This weeks ag report is
following red flags wont guarantee a farming sponsored by:
operation will fail, but they will cause lenders
to worry it is headed in the wrong direction.
1. Farmers who were spendthrifts during good
times. When corn was above $7 per bu., a lot
of farmers made a lot of money. Thats good
news if the money was spent wisely,
Covington says. The good news is, a lot of
farmers have built up some working capital and
liquidity the past few years, he says. This is
the best test what did a farmer do during the good times? Leverage kills its not just about
profitability, its what you did with those profits.
2. Farmers who still have variable-rate debt. Although the Federal Reserve elected to keep interest
rates unchanged in a Sept. 17 announcement, that move stunned many in the market, who now
expect interest rates to inch higher starting Q1 of 2016.
Will farmers be able to absorb those higher interest rates on variable-rate debt? Probably but
not without putting a pinch on other areas of the business, Covington says.
If you have variable-rate debt, its time to start fixing those debts, he says. It couldnt be a
better time, in my opinion.
3. Farmers who struggle with controlling costs. A lot of farmers have already gone to landlords to
negotiate rent reductions, Covington says. But while thats a good move, it shouldnt be the first
move, he adds. He suggests farmers should review the top 20% of their vendors on an annual
basis. Are you challenging those vendors for the best deals? he asks. Make sure youve really
got it down to the lowest price and the best quality match. You have to challenge yourself on the
expense portion of your income statement. Expense control is A No. 1.
4. Farmers who rely more heavily on inventory than cash. Not all assets are created equally,
Covington says. For example, stored grain certainly has value, but cash is faster and easier to
work with. And for stored grain, farmers may be overestimating the value of whats in the bin, he
says, especially when commodity volatility can quickly shift corn prices.
5. Farmers who dont communicate. Constant communication is a best practice Covington
stands by, whether that be communication with vendors, lenders or even others within the farming
operation. Use your vendors, your banker, even your CPA and attorney, he says. Theyre
servicing hundreds of other farmers in many cases. Ask them about the best practices theyre
seeing with other clients. Keep communication lines strong among all key farm stakeholders,
Covington adds. Like any other problem, a farm conflict is best dealt with sooner rather than later
after it has festered or worsened, he says.

Blinkys
Random Thoughts
Yankees legend Yogi Berra passed away last Tuesday at the age of 90.
An 18-time All-Star, Berra appeared in 14 World Series as a member of
the Yankees and won 10 of them. A sportswriters favorite, Berra had
countless expressions and turns of phrase that were memorable because
most of them didnt make any sense. (At the same time, every one had
some truth to it.) Berra-isms (colloquial expressions that lack logic) are now countless, and
many of them are just attributed to Berra, even if he never actually said them. As he so perfectly
put it: I never said most of the things I said. Here are some favorites.
1. When you come to a fork in the road, take it.
2. You can observe a lot by just watching.
3. It aint over till its over.
4. Its like dj vu all over again.
5. No one goes there nowadays, its too crowded.
6. Baseball is 90% mental and the other half is physical.
7. A nickel aint worth a dime anymore.
8. Always go to other peoples funerals, otherwise they wont come to yours.
9. We made too many wrong mistakes.
10. Congratulations. I knew the record would stand until it was broken.
11. You better cut the pizza in four pieces because Im not hungry enough to eat six.
12. You wouldnt have won if wed beaten you.
13. Never answer an anonymous letter.
14. The future aint what it used to be.
15. I tell the kids, somebodys gotta win, somebodys gotta lose. Just dont fight about it. Just
try to get better.
16. Pair up in threes.
17. Youve got to be very careful if you dont know where you are going, because you might
not get there.
18. Even Napoleon had his Watergate.
19. He hits from both sides of the plate. Hes amphibious.
20. I dont know (if they were men or women fans running naked across the field). They had
bags over their heads.
21. Im not going to buy my kids an encyclopedia. Let them walk to school like I did.
22. It aint the heat, its the humility.
23. So Im ugly. I never saw anyone hit with his face.
24. Little League baseball is a very good thing because it keeps the parents off the streets.
25. Im lucky. Usually youre dead to get your own museum, but Im still alive to see mine.
There were many, many more. Regarding his own death he said, Had I known I was going to
live this long, I wouldnt have wasted so much time.

HARRY ORLYKS WORK WILL BE EXHIBITED AT

MCCARTEES BARN in Salem, New York from through
October 31st. The exhibition of fifty paintings, curated by Evera
Sue Clary, provides an in-depth look at the artists work from
1985-2015, which embodies the pure essence of landscape painting, Orlyks paintings are rooted in the seasonal landscapes of
Washington County. They have echoes of the Hudson River
School, but filtered through the use of color and composition of
the Abstract Expressionists. They are strikingly beautiful. The
winter paintings are composed of a pallet of umber, browns and
eggshell whites that capture the barren beauty of the land. Marmalade oranges and cobalt blues evoke the vividness of a hot
summer afternoon. Orlyks work is ambitious. Because he produces a painting a day his work transcends predictable landscape
painting. He calls it a portrait of days: an evolving visual journal of sunlight, land and his own emotional response to a sense
of place. The land is a friend of mine. I enjoy sitting down and
listening to it.
His painting process is unconventional. Every afternoon he gets
in his van, carefully chooses his location, clamps his canvas to
the steering wheel, and paints. He always asks permission of the
people who own the land. As a result he forges a connection
with them.
Orlyk was born in 1947 in Troy, New York. He attended graduate school at University of Nebraska at Lincoln, where he was
taught by a number of influential Nebraskan painters. For over
forty years he has consistently shown his work across the country, including the Carrie Haddad Gallery in Hudson, New York
and the Beamesderfer Gallery in Highland Park, New Jersey, as
well as internationally. In 1995 he was the recipient of a
Guggenheim Fellowship. He lives in Salem, New York with his
family. For further inquires please contact Evera Sue Clary,
