DIDACTIC
OBJECTIVES

CLASSROOM PROGRAMMING

WEATHER AND CLIMATE

Describe the structure and composition of the atmosphere, paying special attention to the
characteristics and function of the ozone layer.
Identify the factors that influence temperature: altitude, latitude and distance from the sea.
Explain how clouds and precipitation form.

Analyse a map of average annual rainfall and explain the factors that determine rainfall.

Recognise the factors that determine atmospheric pressure and the instruments used to
measure it.

Identify the different types of wind and describe how they move and what determines their
intensity.
Use specialised vocabulary from the unit correctly.

CONTENTS

The atmosphere and the ozone layer.

Atmospheric temperature.
Air humidity. Clouds and precipitation.
Atmospheric pressure and wind.
Study and analyse the composition and structure of the atmosphere.
Explain how different factors related to climate interact.
Look up information on the Internet about the function of the ozone layer.
Analyse the solar radiation that reaches the Earths surface.
Study and analyse a map showing average annual temperature.
Carry out an experiment to measure water condensation with air temperature changes.
Analyse and interpret a map of average annual rainfall.
Explain how clouds and precipitation form.
Analyse a map of atmospheric pressure.
Explain the different types of wind and explain how they move.
Interpret a weather map.
Describe how factors related to climate are observed and measured.
Use specialist vocabulary about weather and climate.

EVALUATION
CRITERIA

Check that the students can identify the layers of the atmosphere and explain their
main characteristics.
Verify that they recognise the importance of the ozone layer for life on Earth.

Ensure that they can identify the factors that influence temperature and interpret an
isobar map.
See if they can describe how precipitation forms.
Confirm that they know the geographical distribution of clouds and precipitation.

Find out whether they know the factors that determine atmospheric pressure and the
instruments used to measure it.
Assess whether they can recognise the different types of wind, describe how they
move and identify the factors that determine their intensity.

Evaluate whether they know how to use specialist vocabulary about weather and climate.
