Model Motion

Notes:
1. We are witnessing the biggest movement of people since the Second
World War.
2. Already this year over 2,500 people have drowned in the
Mediterranean Sea trying to reach Europe while thousands more
languish in camps in the most appalling conditions.
3. The governments response has been completely inadequate and has
sought to demonise people who are fleeing war, poverty, and
persecution.
4. Stand Up To Racism is a broad based campaign that seeks to
challenge racism, Islamophobia and the scapegoating of migrants and
refugees.

Believes:
1. The hundred thousand people who attended the SUTR jointly
organised Refugees Welcome march in London demonstrates there is
widespread support for allowing more refugees into the UK.
2. The governments austerity measures pose a far greater threat to the
publics standard of living than migrants and refugees.
3. Our trade union must campaign to make refugees welcome here a
reality.

Resolves to:
1. Support and publicise Stand Up To Racisms next delegation to Calais
on 17 October and their other refugee activities.
2. To make a donation of .to Stand Up To Racisms coach from
London to Calais to ensure people without transport can attend.
3. Support SUTRs National Demo on 19 March 2016 to mark UN AntiRacism Day.
