Activities Planned

Opening Ceremony
The first and foremost thing we are going to do is the opening ceremony which
is just basically an event where the members of the group will introduce
themselves and get to know the villagers as well as give the villagers some brief
ideas of what our main purpose on this health promotion. We are also hoping
that we could be in the villagers good book so that they will co-operate with us
and making this program go smoothly.
Furthermore we will also going to explain about the programs that we have
arranged for the villagers throughout the 2 weeks period.
Personal Hygiene & Environmental Sanitation
In this health promotion program, we would like to promote to the villagers about
the importance of personal hygiene and surrounding environment sanitation.
This is because, to ensure a healthy living style is maintained, it is important to
have a strict personal hygiene and good environmental sanitation. Hence, we will
hold a talk about d hygiene and how to keep the environment sanitized. This talk
will cover about the importance as well as precaution during handling food as
well as the importance in wearing shoes when walking in soil to prevent worm
infestation and food poisoning.
We will also demonstrate to them a proper ways of hand washing as well as tooth
brushing technique to the young children. . This is to educate them to keep their
hands clean at all times to prevent any diseases as well as to have a healthy set
of teeth. The talk will also cover topics of personal hygiene from the handling of
their hair all the way to their feet to increase their awareness on their health and
ways to preserve personal hygiene. Together, we can initiate a better approach
towards the concern of environment cleanliness among the residents in the
village.
Balanced diet
A talk about nutrition will be given to the villagers. During the talk, they will be
educated that a balanced diet is crucial in maintenance of good health and to
increase the bodys immunity system. Excessive taking or deficiency of certain

nutrients will lead to multi sickness such as obesity, diabetes and etc. We will
also show them a chart of the food pyramids. It is hoped that this talk will
increase the villagers awareness in order to practice healthy eating habits. A
step by practicing balanced diet brings them hundred miles away from variety of
diseases.
Medical Check Up
We will organize a free public medical check-up activity for three days in the
village. In the medical check-up activity, we will check the body mass index
(BMI), blood pressure (BP) and eye acuity. Exhibition of posters regarding health
information will be held also at the same time.
1) Body Mass Index (BMI)
We will assign three people for BMI check. One person will be assigned to
measure the height and weight while another person is responsible to calculate
the BMI. After taking the BMI, the third person is responsible to explain to the
villagers about the importance of maintaining a healthy BMI and ways to
calculate BMI on their own so that they can do it themselves in future. But we will
also rotate the role so that everyone will get the chances to do other jobs
between three parties.
2) Blood Pressure
In this section also we will assign three people to check the blood pressure. To
perform

this

task,

three

functional

sphygmomanometers

and

three

stethoscopes are needed. . If any villagers have BP that is not of normal


range, we will advice them to go to the nearest health centre for further
consultation. In addition, we will also put some posters and explain to them a
little bit about the food pyramid so that people will know how food and their
constituent affects our blood pressure.
3) Eye acuity
There will be at least 2 people assigned for visual acuity test. One will be
responsible to point the alphabets on the Snellens

chart while another is

responsible to record the results. The villagers are our target group. The
examination will include the assessment of visual acuity, visual fields and
exclusion of colour blindness. If the results are beyond the normal range, we

would advice them to go to the nearest health centre for additional


consultation. And we will also brief them about the effects of bad eyesight
without aids for example fatigue and headache etc.
Sports day and Lucky Draw
We will conduct a small sport days among the villagers. Our target group will
include all people from the village regardless of their age like children, adults or
even elderly if they can. We will also provide some presents for the winner to
encourage their participant. This event not only to improve the health of the
villagers but also open up the opportunities to have and to improve our good
relations with the people of the villagers
Among the activities that we have plan on this sports day is sukaneka and
aerobic exercise also some sort of lucky draw to spice the moods up. This will
also give chance to the members of the group to have a little fun and take a
break from exhausting yet enticing responsibility through out this health
promotion program.
Demonstration of CPR and Bandage
We will also would like to demonstrate to the villagers about CPR and Bandage.
We will assign two of our group members to demonstrate the correct way to do
CPR and another three members to show how to make proper bandage. This
demonstration is important in case of emergency such as unconscious drawn
person or minor accident in the house.
