Model Code of Practice - Construction Work

This model Code of Practice has been developed to provide practical guidance to principal contractors and
other persons conducting a business or undertaking who carry out construction work on how to meet the health
and safety requirements under the WHS Act and Regulations applying in a jurisdiction relating to construction
work.
This Code should be read in conjunction with other codes of practice on specific hazards and control measures
relevant to the construction industry including:

Demolition Work

Excavation Work

Managing the Risk of Falls at Workplaces

Managing Noise and Preventing Hearing Loss at Work

Preventing Falls in Housing Construction

Confined Spaces

Hazardous Manual Tasks

How to Manage and Control Asbestos in the Workplace

How to Safely Remove Asbestos.

To have legal effect in a jurisdiction, the model Code of Practice must be approved as a code of practice in that
jurisdiction. To determine if this model Code of Practice has been approved as a code of practice in a particular
jurisdiction, check with the relevant regulator.
This Code has been revised and republished in November 2013. An amendments table advising the
changes that have been made to this Code is included in the November 2013 version. The previous
version is located on the historical versions page.

Model Code of Practice - Demolition Work


This model Code of Practice has been developed to provide practical guidance for persons conducting a
business or undertaking on how to manage the health and safety risks associated with demolition work. It
applies to all types of demolition work and is relevant to demolition contractors as well as persons conducting a
business or undertaking who have management or control of workplaces where demolition work is carried out,
such as principal contractors.
To have legal effect in a jurisdiction, the model Code of Practice must be approved as a code of practice in that
jurisdiction. To determine if this model Code of Practice has been approved as a code of practice in a particular
jurisdiction, check with the relevant regulator.
This Code has been revised and republished in March 2015. An amendments table advising the

Model Codes of Practice - Excavation work


This model Code of Practice has been developed to provide practical guidance for persons conducting a
business or undertaking on how to manage the health and safety risks associated with excavation work. This
Code applies to all types of excavation work, including bulk excavations more than 1.5 metres deep, trenches,
shafts and tunnels.
