Chingford

Childrens Centre
Chingford Childrens Centre supports families of children from birth to five years
as well as pregnant parents in the Chingford area.
Our universal groups like Stay and Play are for all families and are free.
The groups are planned around the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework
and support children to learn and develop through play.
Please contact us if you would like to know more about our services or the
partners we work with or if you are interested in becoming a volunteer.

Safeguarding Children
All staff regularly receive child protection training so that they know what to
do if they believe that a child or vulnerable adult is at risk of harm or neglect.
If you have any concerns about a child or adult Raymond Wood is the lead
safeguarding officer and can be contacted on 0208 496 1551.

Benefit
As more and more of us receive
benefits and with the ever changing
rules and procedures it is more
important than ever that we make
sure that we are on top of it. This you
may say is easier said than done as
the rules are always changing, how
am I expected to know what the
latest is, how am I to know if I am
receiving too much or not enough.
Well the answer is simple you can
download all the benefits information
from the web and read it all and
then understand all the legal jargon
and how it relates to you and then
complete the necessary paperwork
and submit it.

Or you can ask us at the Children

Centre and we will make sure we
point you in the right direction to get
accurate information and advice,
what have you got to lose?
It is advisable to check benefits
periodically or when there has been
a change in your circumstances.
If you have been overpaid the sooner
you find out the less you have to
repay. If you have been underpaid
then you want to get your entitlement
as soon as possible.
We can also give information on what
work, paid or voluntary can be done
without affecting your benefit and
also what training and courses you
could benefit from.

FATHERS GROUP
DADS + FATHERS + MALE CARERS +
UNCLES + GRANDFATHERS
In a world of change there are few things
that remain the same and one thing that
has stayed the same is that children want
their fathers. What we have found is that
week days are okay for some fathers to
attend groups with their children however
some still find it difficult to attend during
the week so we have decided to put on a
group on Saturday.

The group will run every Saturday. So come

along with your child, stay and play in a
welcoming and child friendly environment.
We have an experienced facilitator who will
be able to support and give advice when
needed; you will also be able to meet male
carers just like you.

So what are you waiting for,

come along and bring a friend.

See you there

Healthy Teeth Happy Smile

Sing to the tune of Im a little tea pot
and change morning for bedtime for
second verse.
Im a tube of tooth paste on the shelf,
Sad and lonely by myself,
When it comes to morning hear me
shout, Lift my lid and squeeze me out.
Taking care of your general health as
well as your teeth is the key to making
the most of your smile.
Brushing your teeth twice a day with
toothpaste, flossing them daily and
having regular check-ups with a dentist
can help keep your teeth healthy. But
diet, smoking and drinking alcohol also
have an effect on dental health.

Limiting the amount of sugar you and

your family eat and drink is important to
prevent tooth decay. Have sugary food
and drink only at mealtimes and dont
eat sugary snacks between meals. This
is especially important in young children
and babies.
It is also important you brush your teeth
in the right way. See the NHS choice
website for more details.

Grand parents
Calling all grandparents, we are putting on a stay and play
directed at you the Grandparents. We value your contribution
to the raising of the next generation and we want you to
have a place to come and meet other grandparents doing
just what you are doing.
Where: at the Wyemead Centre a place which has the latest
toys and equipment to give your grandchild an amazing
experience and the ability to socialise with other children in
a safe and friendly environment.
We know that you are called upon to share the care of your
grandchildren, so we have on offer a place for you to take
them, you are not alone so dont be alone.

Breastfeeding
Im sure you know how
good breast milk is for your
baby. The first weeks milk
is vital for supporting their
immune systems, making
their digestive system work
smoothly. It works as the
primary mum-child bonding
attachment factor, which
helps baby to feel safe
and secure.
Did you know how breast
feeding is good for you? First of
all it helps to restore your body
back to pre-pregnancy as the
body is able to recover quickly.
Secondly, the researchers
discovered breast feedings
positive impact in preventing
the breast and ovarian cancers.
Thirdly, helps to overcome
post birth/natal depression
and builds self-confidence.
Breastfeeding can be very
challenging at first for most,
but I urge you to not give up
at the first hurdle as you and
your family will benefit.

And finally, did you know that

men can breastfeed? Especially
these days as there are
numerous ways to express milk
so that the feeding experience
can be shared by both parents.
Its your choice as a parent and
we are here to support you.
We have a breastfeeding
worker to help you through
those first few days and weeks
so you are not on your own.
