PAPER 2

SECTION A
1. The following experiment are carried out to investigate the rate of zinc corrosion.
In each experiment, 2 g of zinc was used to react with 50 cm 3 of hydrochloric acid
with a concentration of 1 mol dm-3. Zinc is used in excess in this experiments.

PAPER 3
1. The experiment to find out the effect of temperature on the rate of reaction was
carried out by using the following reactants :

50 cm3 of sodium thiosulphate solution 0.05 mol dm3 at 310C was put into the
conical flask. The flask was placed on a piece of white paper with an X sign
drawn on it.
10 cm3 of hydrochloric acid 1.0 mol dm3 was added to the sodium
thiosulphate solution. The mixture was shake and the stopwatch started. The
stop watch was stopped when the X sign was no longer visible.

The experiment was repeated by using sodium thiosulphate solution heated to 36 0C,
410C, 460C and 510C. in these experiment the following reading of the stop clock
were recorded.

(a) Construct a table to record the temperature, the time taken and 1/time for these
experiments.

reaction and temperature.
