Ooh la la! Salford et Les Dragons Catalans!

As part of a link between
Stretford High School’s
PE and MFL department
and the Salford City
Reds, students have
been working on a pro-
ject around the Salford v
Catalans game.
Year 7 and 8 students
played on the pitch at
half time in the Catalans
game and Miss Walker
arranged a primary festi-
val for our feeder prima-
ries. The event was a
huge success and was
the latest in a long line of
great SSCo events. Sal-
ford players Ray Cash-
mere and Dean McGil-
vary were on hand to
give out the medals on
what was a great day!

Stretford High School Sports Council Unveiled

After undergoing a process of
application and interview, the
PE department has unveiled its
first Sports Council. The pur-
pose of the council is to in-
crease student voice in PE to
improve both the curriculum and
after school activities. Students
need to know who their repre-
sentative is so that they can use
them to raise important issues.
The first task of the Sports Coun-
cil is to be recognized and that
students know they are their and
the job they do. Sports Council
members will wear a badge on
their blazer. They are (pic on
p3) Aadil Mir, Maira Moham-
med, Amir Arif, Aisha Sadak,
Hakim Proverbs, Jess Warden,
Arif Suleman, Abby Ashton,
Diallo Pringle, Zakia Ahmed,
Jahrell Williams and Mykah
Walters.

5 minutes with…. Mr Singh
We ask other members of staff their interests
I have been born and raised in
Manchester, England which I
am very proud of especially as
this city being the rock of the
north. However I have family
connections which stem from
the Punjab in India. This has
allowed me to become cultur-
ally diverse as I have spent a
great deal of time visiting this
great place.
Firstly, I have enjoyed sports
from a very young age. I have
represented Trafford at foot-

at Cricket. Also I really enjoy
working with children this has
stemmed from my time coach-

could hardly stand up—

The PE department re-
cently accepted an invi-
tation from Manchester
Phoenix Ice Hockey Club
to begin the process of
welcoming them to the
ever growing portfolio of
partners who work with
2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver!!!!
Lack of funding and even
a lack of snow hasn’t
prevented the Winter
Olympics in Vancouver,
Canada being a huge
success!

a Teacher of PE.
As mentioned above, I have
respectively represented
teams at a County level for
Football and Cricket. I like to
think that I am dab hand at all
sports, this is definitely por-
trayed through the serious-
ness I take all competitions.
I enjoy different types of Mu-
sic for example, R N B, Soul

already enjoy relation-
ships with relationships

County Cricket Club and
Salford Reds. The aim is
to add Ice Hockey and
figure skating to Project
9. There are plans to do
this in the summer and
to run a trip to the Phoe-
nix.

SHS Sports Round Up

Basketball; After enjoying a great season,
Year 7 Boys were crowned as Trafford
Champions with captain Jordie Thomas be-
ing the outstanding player.
Football; In the last 16 of the ESFA U15s
cup, Year 10 crashed out to Rastrick High
School 2-1 after a controversial penalty was
awarded in gale force conditions.
The boys will content themselves with de-
fending the Trafford League and cup from
last season.
Elsewhere in Football, Yr 7 Lost to AOM, Yr
9 drew 2-2 and the big story was in Yr 8. They
won the Fire Service Cup and will now carry out
the Champions League Flag at the Old Trafford
leg of the quarter final. A huge accolade for Mr
Fielding and the boys!
Rugby Union; Yr 10/11 Boys finished 3rd in the
Manchester Emerging Schools Competition.
Rugby League, Yr7&8 play BTH on the 18th
