Marcellin: My teacher that loves

Educating the youth perspectives, contemporary challenges responses (as reported)

-facts and figures
-extent of values and formation
In order to train a child, we must love them. This was I often see posted in the
walls of Notre Dame of Marbel University. During my undergraduate studies, as a
freshman way back then, it took a long time before I recognized the author of that
quotation. I know Marcellin, as he is always mentioned in the mass and in our religion.
But who really is he and what about the fruit of his teachings and the relevance of his
ideas in education? And Im so grateful because of this course, I have encountered him
truly. I have deepened my understanding about his purposeful existence.
The youth today are far more expressive, more expose, more vulgar, and needs
more freedom that those of before. Educating them without a handful of patience is like
crossing a hot water. If I were to further describe them, they rebellious, nave, and
freedom seeker, on the contrary they are active and reactive to changes in the society.
The parents and teachers find it difficult to address values formation of this youth. The
traditional way, they become more resistant to values formation. They easily get hook to
media and believe with what it tells.
Hence, media and westernization is blamed. But they must be saved.

It is undeniably a fact that the elements of Marist pedagogy are all relevant in
education. All the elements are directed to LOVE, the mirror image of pedagogy. When
there is love, there is pedagogy. When love is seen, teachings are deep; it is
unfathomable in the minds of the learners.
Presence and good example is vital in education. As a teacher, I could really
say that when teachers and pupils interact often they get to know each other. The
attendance of a teacher to the pupils offers a realistic education when in terms of
concept, knowledge, and understanding facts. In the same manner, teachers are value
setters. When the teacher do good things, expect that his pupils will do the same, and if
he do not, then expect that his pupils will do that thing the same way he did. Pupils
follow whatever his or her teacher does. This is already proven since the society look
ups to teachers as a good example. Thus, this says that these elements are really
significant in education.
The second element, the ease of relationship between the teacher and the
student emphasize the importance of strong connection between the teacher and the
pupils. Respect and obedience must be built between the two. The pupils should never
forget to recognise this value. Since this build good teaching and learning relationship.
A teacher can teach effectively knowing that his or her pupil respects him. He will
become motivated and will no longer waste his time thinking on how to get his pupils
respect. Thus, he will have more time on learning process than on disciplining.

The third element is all about simplicity. It is really real that instructions have to
be simple for someone to understand it easily. At the level of the pupils, teachers do
their best to make the directions clear whenever they conduct test or activity. This is to
ensure that everyone gets what is required. This will also help them achieve a clear
understanding on what and how to do the task.
The fourth element speaks about the teachers innovativeness. The society is
improving, so education has to deal with it. Teachers of todays generation upgrade
themselves to become competitive as needed in the global market. They try their best to
become resourceful to improve their teaching skills. They do these purposely for their
learners, for them to adopt to change and become a quality graduate and worker as
they can be.
Who would say that teachers training are unimportant and a waste of resources?
Well if all educators are asks, all will definitely say no because it is undeniably
important. In order to teach the learners effectively, a teacher should be well equipped
with teaching skills appropriate not only for the lesson but most especially for the
learner. Teaching is a craft so it has to be learned and practice. And this idea should not
be neglected when thinking about quality education. a recognition of the importance of
the craft of teaching.
The sixth element emphasizes the importance of building the self esteem and
sefl confidence of the youth. It is a fact that if you encourage the youth and trust that
they can do things, they become more confident and able to do the task. A simple
praise, as a reward means a lot to them.
Finally, the seventh says that To be effective as a teacher, according to
Marcellin, a person first of all had to be acting out of a love of Jesus. And this is really
significant in educating the children. Because if you love them you will give your full trust
to them that they can really learn and do great things.
