Brief Technical Description

The modulator block diagram is shown in Figure 2-1. A high-accuracy, thermal
compensated quartz oscillator 10 MHz is a source of the clock signal. Its frequency
is multiplied 4 times for the digital part timing. A VCO is utilized for the actuating
signal generation of the HF part, which is phase-locked to this high-accuracy
oscillator. For the digital part clock signal generation, an external 10 MHz clock
signal may be optionally applied. The T02-1400 module control is ensured by a 32bit embedded software Microblaze processor, which is recorded to the FPGA Xilinx
of the Spartan 3 XC3S4000 series. The processor is extended by a SRAM external
memory, which the program part is executed from, and by a serial FLASH.
Communication with the CPS occurs via the 10/100 Mbit Ethernet TCP/IP protocol.
Commands and diagnostics are converted to the RS232 protocol in the XPORT
block for the Microblaze processor. The T02-1400 module is provided with two
pieces of XPORT, one of which is a Master, the other is a Slave. In addition,
communication with two independent CPS can be established simultaneously in
each of them. Consequently, altogether four independent CPS can command the
module T02-1400, and in case of the communication interruption with the CPS,
which currently commands, the command shall be automatically changed over to
the operating CPS with the highest priority.
The HF signal with required frequency (1030 MHz or 1090 MHz) created in the
synthesizer and VCO block is amplitude and phase modulated in the modulator
block. Obtained signal is then filtered in switched band pass filters, and after the
amplification in the low-pass filter for the spurious frequency components removal.
The signal is amplified in two parts it is amplified to 100 W in a three-stage boost
amplifier (RF Section 1) and then lead to the RF Section 2. It consists of a balanced
pair of 800 W amplifiers (2 x 400 W LDMOS transistor) operating in the linear AB
class, which amplifies the signal to demanded 1400 W. Constant pre-current of
these transistors in the operating temperature range is maintained by the
microprocessor of 8051 series with DA and AD converters and C8051F015
thermometer. This processor performs also diagnostics of the RF Section 2 (SWR),
and transfers the diagnostic information to the Digital Section 1 for further
processing.
Required transmission power is attained with the help of a digital attenuator and the
control of the RF Section 1 boost amplifier last two stages. On the RF Section 1 and
RF Section 2 outputs, circulators for the protection against returned power are
connected, and circuits monitoring output power and SWR as well. The HF output is
protected against overvoltage effects by means of a lightning arrester with a quarterwave short-circuited line. Power supply input is also protected against the
overvoltage effects. Thermometers are situated on the digital part card and under
the HF part card, temperature readings of which are used for possible decreasing or
turning out the transmission output power in case of the T02-1400 module
overheating. The T02-1400 module is equipped with a 75 driver with overvoltage
protection for possible connection to the measuring unit (envelope of transmitted
interrogations and responses).

Setting up the IP Address

Run the Lantronix DeviceInstaller program version 3.6.0.6 from archive
\\era_nt_server2\6000\vykrarch\Sw\EZ0100A\EZ0100A00114_XX\TXLU_2_XPORTS_IQMO
D_XX.zip (XX is actual fw version number, for example 00). Then press

the Assign IP button, and in opened window, complete MAC address

of XPort to the red labeled field (see Figure 113); the address is designated
on the XPORT2 label stuck on the T02-1400 module.

Procedure of Output Power Decrease and SWR Monitoring

Turning out on Frequency of 1090 MHz
This procedure serves for decreasing output power to approx. 100 W and
turning out the SWR monitoring on the frequency of 1090 MHz so that the
T02-1400 module could be used together with transmitting antenna, which
has wrong matching on 1090 MHz. This configuration must be performed at
turned out transmission (by a command from CPS) of configured block!!!
1) Wiring at the configuration is similar to Figure 112.
2) Following file shall be expanded on the computer hard disk:
\\era_nt_server2\6000\vykrarch\Sw\EZ0100A\EZ0100A00114_XX\TXL
U_2_XPORTS_IQMOD_XX.zip (XX is a number of fw actual version,
e.g. 00), which contains firmware of the TXLU transmitter and
configuration files.
3) In the Windows system command line (Start Execute enter cmd to
the opened window and confirm by OK button), following file shall be
executed: $\T02_700_SWR_1090_off.bat xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx, where $ is a
path to the directory created after following file expansion:
\\era_nt_server2\6000\vykrarch\Sw\EZ0100A\EZ0100A00114_XX\TXL
U_2_XPORTS_IQMOD_XX.zip (e.g. c:\TXLU_2_XPORTS_IQMOD_00)
and xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is an IP address of the XC2 Xport.
4) A short-time disconnection of configured block from the power supply
shall be carried out. If such disconnection cannot be realized, Lantronix
DeviceInstaller version 3.6.0.6 shall be executed, application of which is
described above, and the above mentioned procedure shall be
performed except for the NTP Setup item selection and consecutive
entering addresses of NTP servers.
5) To return the block eventually to its original status, the procedure from
point 3) shall be repeated, while instead of
T02_700_SWR_1090_off.bat, the T02_700_SWR_1090_on.bat shall be
executed.
