Venture and external exams

Two of the most popular external exam boards in Italy are the Trinity College London and
Cambridge English Language Assessment exams. These relate to the CEFR levels in this
course in the following way:

Trinity College Exams

The Trinity College London GESE (Oral) exams consist of twelve Grades which get
progressively more difficult. They are divided into four stages: Initial (Grades 1, 2, 3),
Elementary (Grades 4, 5, 6), Intermediate (Grades 7, 8, 9) and Advanced (Grades 10, 11,
12).
Trinity College London also offers four Integrated Skills Exams (ISE Foundation, ISE I, ISE II,
and ISE III) which correspond to the CEF levels A2, B1, B2 and C1. Grades 4, 6, 8, and 11 of
the GESE exams correspond to the oral components of the ISE Foundation, ISE I, ISE II and
ISE III, respectively.
Venture 1 and 2 help students prepare for the Trinity College London exams by covering
GESE subject areas and task types across all grades and exchange types in Speaking
activities. They also offer written activities suitable for the ISE I and II Portfolio tasks:
Correspondence, Factual writing and Creative and descriptive writing. Practice is also
given in the Summative Tests. Activities which practise Trinity College London subject
areas and task types are signposted by
. Venture 1 prepares students for GESE grades
35 and for ISE Foundation and ISE I, while Venture 2 prepares for GESE grades 68 and
for ISE I and ISE II.
Venture also provides regular listening and speaking activities throughout the course,
which allow students to build up and consolidate their oral skills in general.

Cambridge English Language Assessment Exams

Venture 1 and 2 help prepare students for Cambridge English: Preliminary (PET) for
Schools (both levels) and Cambridge English: First (FCE)) (Venture 2) by providing regular
practice in the task types required for these exams. Test conditions practice is given in the
Summative Tests. These activities are signposted by

Venture also provides students with a lot of general practice and consolidation of the
language which is ideal for exam preparation. Students are encouraged to develop their
learning skills, with work on strategies for dealing with unfamiliar structures and
vocabulary, and for approaching different kinds of listening tasks.
