Floridas September Employment Figures Released

Floridas seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 5.2 percent in September 2015, down 0.2 percentage
point from the revised August 2015 rate of 5.4 percent, and down 0.6 percentage point from 5.8 percent a
year ago. There were 497,000 jobless Floridians out of a labor force of 9,532,000. The U.S. unemployment
rate was 5.1 percent in September. Floridas unemployment rate has been less than or equal to the national
rate for 23 of the last 34 months.
Floridas seasonally adjusted total nonagricultural employment was 8,113,900 in September 2015, an increase
of 2,100 jobs (less than +0.1 percent) over the month. Compared to September a year ago, the number of jobs
in the state was up by 235,700, an increase of 3.0 percent. Nationally, the number of jobs was up 2.0 percent
over the year. Floridas annual job growth rate has exceeded the nations rate since April 2012.

Floridas Nonagricultural Employment by Industry (Seasonally Adjusted)

The number of jobs in Florida was 8,113,900 in September 2015, up 235,700 jobs compared to a year ago.
September 2015 was the 62nd consecutive month with positive annual job growth after the state lost jobs for
over three years. The industry gaining the most jobs was leisure and hospitality (+58,100 jobs, +5.3 percent).

Other industries gaining jobs included education and health services (+50,200 jobs, +4.3 percent); trade,
transportation, and utilities (+44,500 jobs, +2.7 percent); construction (+26,700 jobs, +6.6 percent);
professional and business services (+26,300 jobs, +2.2 percent); financial activities (+15,000 jobs, +2.9
percent); other services (+12,200 jobs, +3.7 percent); manufacturing (+3,500 jobs, +1.1 percent); and
government (+1,300 jobs, +0.1 percent).

The only major industry that lost jobs over the year was information (-1,900 jobs, -1.4 percent).
Local Area Unemployment Statistics (Not Seasonally Adjusted)

In September 2015, Monroe County had the states lowest unemployment rate (3.6 percent), followed by St.
Johns County (3.8 percent) and Franklin and Okaloosa counties (4.3 percent each).

Hendry County had the highest unemployment rate (11.4 percent) in Florida in September 2015, followed by
Hardee County (8.6 percent) and Glades and Highlands counties (7.3 percent each). Hendry County was the
only county with a double-digit unemployment rate for September and August.
Area Nonagricultural Employment (Not Seasonally Adjusted)

Twenty-three metro areas in the state had over-the-year job gains in September 2015. The areas with the
largest gains were Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford (+41,400 jobs, +3.7 percent), Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater
(+28,500 jobs, +2.3 percent), and Ft. Lauderdale-Pompano Beach-Deerfield Beach (+22,800 jobs, +2.9 percent).

The only metro area that lost jobs over the year was Homosassa Springs (-100 jobs, -0.3 percent)
