PROGRAMME OVERVIEW

PROGRAMME MODULES

The Doctor of Philosophy (Business) PhD programme is designed to prepare


students for a career as an academic or a researcher or a consultant in the public
or private sector. The research in the PhD programme is an in-depth investigation
of specific research issue(s) related to a management discipline with the aim of
enhancing and contributing to new knowledge in that discipline. Students are
expected to have strong theoretical and research methodological foundations and
be able to conduct their research independently.

(8 credit hours)

RESEARCH PROPOSAL

PHASE II
PROPOSAL DEFENCE
Each student must present and
defend his/her PhD research
proposal. The student is only
allowed to continue with his/her
research to Phase Ill on passing of
the defence of his/her proposal

Applicants for Doctor of Philoshopy (Business) PhD programme are required to


submit a comprehensive statement of the research which they propose to carry
out. The proposal should comprise the following elements:

Field of research
Topic of research proposal
Problem statement with a brief literature review on the research topic
Proposed objective and significant of study - Explain the objective(s) that
influence the research
5 Methodology of study - Explain the methods used in study
6 Work schedule
7 References
8 The research proposal should contain between 1,500 - 2,000 words or about
four (4) pages

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
To qualify for admission into the Doctor of Philosophy (Business) PhD programme,
the applicant is required to possess one of the following qualifications:

Two core courses


Research Process and Academic
Writing
Research Design and Methodology

PHASE Ill
DATA COLLECTION AND THESIS
PREPARATION
The student proceeds to his/her
data collection, data analysis and
thesis writing
PHASE IV
VIVA VOCE
After submitting the thesis, the
students is required to attend a
Viva Voce to defend his/her thesis

1 A Master's Degree or its equivalent in the relevant field, or


2 Other qualifications as approved by the IUMW senate, or
3 Applicants with a Bachelor's Degree with CGPA of 3.7 and above can apply
direcly for a PhD programme
