The Prodigal Son (Part One)

Father God,
Thank you for loving me and taking care of me. Bless my church, Pastor
Ron and his family. Bless my teachers for teaching me Your Word. I
believe your love is flowing through me to other people. Help me to obey
my parents so things will go well with me and I will live a long life on the
earth. I will tell how great You are and how much I love You. I thank You
that by Jesus stripes I am healed.

The Father receives us with mercy and compassion when we repent of

our sin and turn to Him.

Luke 15:18, I will arise and go to my father and say to Him, Father, I
have sinned against heaven and against You.

Our heavenly Father loves us and wants us to have the desires

of our heart. Many times our desires are selfish and only serve
to please us. God has great plans to see us succeed in life, but
His plans are not for us to succeed just one day; He wants to
see us succeed for the long run. Sometimes, this means that
He will let us go off and do things our own way like the father
did in the story of the Prodigal Son. This father was a wealthy
landowner who had two sons. His younger son asked for his
inheritance which was a very unusual and rude thing to do.
Usually, he would have gotten this money at the death of his
father. Nevertheless, his father gave him the portion of money
he should have gotten only when his father was dead and the
younger son left home. It wasnt long before the money was all
gone and the prodigal son had no food and no friends or family
to help him. At last he takes a job feeding pigs which was the
lowest of lowly jobs, especially for Jewish people who believed
pigs were unclean meat. They wouldnt even eat pigs. But here
the son finds himself feeding pigs and he finally comes back to
himself.
This is how it is when we have gone our own way, messed up,
and are hurting due to the bad situation we have gotten
ourselves into. These feelings of sorrow are not the same as
being repentant. The prodigal son was hungry for food, for
compassion, and fellowship. When we are truly sorry we come
to Father God admitting that we are wrong and sorry that
we have caused pain for our loving Father and others we love.
True repentance is met with mercy, compassion, and forgiveness
from God.
