System Losses

1. Boiler Blow down Losses Nominal blow down based on TDS level shall
be done.
2. Cooling Tower Blow down Losses Can be minimized by improved CW
water treatment and there by improved COC.
3. Live Steam leakages Should be arrested.
4. Un-burnt Carbon Loss in ash Proper residence time and fluidization will
control the same.
5. Coal Spillage Losses All transfer points shall be provided with DE points
to collect dust and recycle.
6. Heat transfer loss due to soot deposits on pressure parts Regular soot
blowing will improve this aspect.
7. Losses because of turbine deposits Proper water treatment and also by
regular maintenance.
8. Compressed Air Losses Unnecessary use of Compressed air shall be
avoided.
Design Losses
1. Pumps designed for larger head and operating at lower head and capacity
will have adverse impact on power consumption.
2. Compressors mostly on unload cycle will consume waste power. Instead
small compressors of increased quantity shall be provided.
3. Fans with VFD shall be provided to save power costs.
4. The draft in the boiler along with fluidization velocity shall be properly
designed for the selected coal.
5. Turbine cycle shall be optimized by minimizing gland leakages etc.
Non-Performing Assets
1. Construction equipments purchased during construction shall be sold as the
equipments are not required for day to day operations.
2. DG Sets available at site shall be quantified and the excess quantity shall be
disposed with.

time frame from domestic market shall not be kept in more numbers in Inventory.
Inventory stock shall be constantly monitored and reviewed before ordering for the
same.
Improvement for Better Operation
The above mentioned losses shall be minimized, Non-performing assets including
excess manpower shall be disposed off, Excess Inventory shall be avoided and
constant motivation to the employees shall be given. This will result in better
operation.
Suggestive Scheme for better productivity
1. Incentive shall be given annually for no accident in site.
2. Productivity linked payment shall be declared for the entire plant. For this
some part of the salary shall be made variable and the same shall be linked
to the PLF of the plant.
3. Training both on-field and off-field shall be imparted to all employees.
